Show MINING EXHIBIT AT STATE FAIR MOST COMPLETE IN ITS HISTORY much could be said in related detail concerning 6 the mining indu exhibit at the state fair which closed its doors saturday after a most successful weeks showing 6 Hoi however vever limited space will not permit reiteration of what has already been said or attempting a detailed description of each and every exhibitors display it was noticeable and indeed commendable to observe the completeness and attractiveness in comparison to past performances which to say the least been any anything ta brag about when it is considered that mining 6 is the chief contributor to name and fame faine much credit is to be given to each exhibitor whose conscientious interest and hard work made possible a display which in no way belittles the name of mining 6 the lions share of the credit however belongs to A G mackenzie secretary of the utah chapter of the american mining congress and member of the fair board who individually supervised the entire coliseum in which the exhibit was held the building a two story structure was divided with the ground floor devoted to a most complete display of mining milling and alne smelling smelting sm elting equipment as presented by manufacturers I 1 and dealers the outer edge of the huge elliptical enclosure being utilized as an automobile show the ba balcony or mezzanine floor floo r was vas entirely taken up by the mineral display as prepared and presented by the combined efforts of the U S bureau of mines the department of metallurgical research of the university of utah the mining committee of the chamber of commerce leading mining and smelting smelling sm elting companies of the state and the american red cross there were a number of new additions to the mineral exhibit among them noticeably the coal indu display made possible by the consolidation of the leading producers and containing several 1000 lb ib lumps attractively arranged these came same lumps were on exhibition at the carbon county fair and were arranged for this exhibit by officials of the carbon county fair association and john E pettit former state coal mine inspector the processes of treatment from raw ore to finished product as displayed by the leading smelting smelling sm elting companies were were among others of the new features the exhibit of the U S bureau of mines in cooperation with the department of metallurgical research of the university of utah was most complete and filled with educational cat ional value all displayed in a manner designed to give a clear idea to the layman microscopic pictures of rock and mineral particles A flotation cell in operation the crushing grinding and sizing department which included an used to size materials too fine for sieves the electrolytic deposition of zinc and copper from solution the analytical assay of gold old and silver metallurgical products of special interest to agriculture with illustrations of comparative results in sugar beets with and without use of potash fertilizers the mine rescue and first aid section showing process of analyzing coal and rock dust mine rescue equipment and safety first suggestions A series of motion picture films covering thirteen subjects were displayed twice daily these films were produced by the intermountain experiment station of the U S bureau of mines and are available without charge b to any organization with facilities for showing them all in all the mining z exhibit was a success it is hoped that the 6 good work may continue and future displays w will ill be even more complete in size quality and educational value it is one of the best mediums of publicity and the industry deserves it |
