Show THE BROMIDE HINE by our regular correspondent vernal utah may 25 the annual meeting of the bromide minin mining g company was held on the at the local office of the company A controlling interest in the properties of the company is now held by kansas city investors who were represented at the meeting by rice R miner and R miller of that city A complete reorganization was effected and new officers chosen henceforth the company will sail under the title of the kansas city copper mining and smelting smelling Sm elting company with headquarters at denver the selection of officers has been decided upon which is however subject to ratification at a later meeting to be held in denver J K burnham was chosen president rice R miner secretary and treasurer and J E lawrence business manager these three gentlemen are from kansas city which leaves the inference that the eastern stockholders will dominate the policy of the company manager manader lawrence is a mining engineer of long experience and is well equipped for his position he was at one time connected with the comstock mines of virginia city ney nev and brings to his position the experience that is only gained by practical work in the mines of the west the company is incorporated under the laws of colorado with shares of 1 each the stockholders of the old bromide company will receive two shares in the new company as an equivalent for each share in in the extinct corporation shares will be placed in the treasury for development work sufficient money has been advanced to place the company on a cash basis and make monthly payments for labor and material with manager lawrence in charge it is believed that the difficulties that have beset the enterprise heretofore will be overcome and that the continuous expenditure that was becoming monotonous to the old company will be changed into profits the property of the company consists of a group of five claims on douglass mountain chief of which is the bromide and upon which the company has confined the work of exploration douglass mountain lies directly along the great lime belt and the bromide like the dyer mine is located on the northern exposure of the lime reef that extends in a ad direct line eastward from the dyer hill to douglass mountain which are distant from each other some fifty or sixty miles although along the same belt there is a wide difference in the ore and characteristics of the mines of carbonate and douglass mountain the ores of carbonate hill which lias has been made famous by the dyer mine are found in the lime and exist in great pockets are not dissimilar to those first encountered in the famous copper queen mine of arizona and which has developed into one of the greatest copper propositions of the country the bromide mine lies below the contact in the red sandstone formation which underlies the lime belt the contact between the two formations is very distinct and is identical wherever found for over a hundred miles along that reef the ore in the bromide is found in an almost per perpendicular ula r vein running from a few inches to three feet in width at times the vein almost icho wholly lly disappears always however lea leaving vi ing a red gouge which invariably leads to a continuation of the vein which seems to be continuous s when followed southward towards the lime reef but becomes indistinct and is finally lost when followed to the north it is the general impression i m i among mining men that the bromide is a gash vein that when followed will lead to the co contact intact between the two formations where in all probability rich deposits will be encountered the ore is a red oxide containing a considerable sid erable amount of silica which has proved to be a troublesome factor in its reduction A run made last fall when pounds of bullion was run out shows that the ore averages 14 per cent copper cippera cop pera a trace in gold and in silver silv e r occasionally very rich deposits are found along the vein running as high as 80 per cent in the red metal the ore is blended with a hard flinty quartz in the vein at times this quartz will predominate and again will almost wholly disappear le leaving avino a splendid vein of nice ore there are several shafts drifts and inclines in the prope property arty aggregating 1000 feet of development work a trip through which gives one the impression that there is a future before the property five miles north at douglass springs the company has erected a thirty ton si smelter nelter which as yet has been used only in an experimental way experiments thus far have demonstrated that a change of all coke is necessary to smelt the ore as there is a decided tendency to freeze while the furnace is in operation it has hag also been demonstrated that the iron found in the red formation is useless for flue ing anop and must come from the lime the smelter is about miles from rock springs on the union pacific and about 90 miles from rifle on the D ar R G As the co coke ke must be shipped by wagon Z from one or the other of these points the question of fuel cuts a very material figure with the advantage derived from years of experience at his command a and nd with ample funds for the prosecution of the work ahead it is a very reasonable prediction that manager lawrence will place the bromide ou OD the lint of dividend payers at no distant day there are several other fine prospects in the camp chief among them being the gamble mine owned by rock springs parties and which is located near zenobia peak five miles west of bromide in this property the ore is found directly on the contact and conforms to the dip of the lime reef which is about 45 degrees the ore is not unlike some of that found in the dyer but of a lower average ave average raae it is considered a fine proposition and great things are expected from it in the future to the east cast of the bromide are the jennie mcneil and the east lynne both of which show splendid ore on the dumps the east lynne has the same perpendicular vein that characterizes the bromide As yet vet the quartz predominates but every few feet a fine stringer of ore comes in which leads to the belief that there are better things ahead all along the line of contact between these claims and beyond is a continuous string of prospect holes of various degrees of promise upon many of these prospects work in a great measure depends upon the varying success of the bromide people to which the whole camp for inspiration the district is just over the line in routt county colorado colorado but has been exploited principally by vernal men although not over fifty miles from vernal it is necessary to travel twice that distance by wagon to reach the camp the road winds in a circuitous fashion over diamond mountain and through the famous brown s park country although across the line the camp is tributary to vernal and its ups and downs are of interest to the border city where the success of the company will be reflected to a certain degree work has been resumed on the properties of the vernal copper company in the jesse ewing district forty five miles northeast of vernal the companas comp anys property consists of a group of thirteen claims through which run several veins of copper silver 0 ore re of varying vary ing 0 richness rich ness the stockholders irs of the company are A W mccune E V mccune Ic Cune and R B shepard of salt lake and william oneil of vernal work on the dyer mine will beg begin in in earnest about july several men are employed at present but their work is confined to prospecting new ground A new strike has been reported in tunnel A of this property consisting of a foot vein of fine ore manager sawyer states that the strike has not been followed J lr ar enough L to determine its importance or relation to the main ore bodies work at split mountain continues with favorable indications A number of prospectors are now in the field in that district |
