fifteen miles east and west by twenty miles north df and south wherein the local records show there are nearly 1300 mining locations the first having been made in 1891 the de lamar group extends across what is locally known ay as lookout mountain covering a great reat quart zite lode which trends nearly north and south the pro property p is opened through a series of tunnels cutti cutting ncr into the mountain one above another following the strike of the mineral zone northward the formation is a quartzite being about 80 per cent silica an and is somewhat broken by porphyry dykes cutting diagonally 15 through the otherwise regular quartzite strata while the mineralized shoots are referred to as veins and ledges there seems to be an absence of distinct walls or vein matter distinguishable from the regular formation jo to illustrate this it may be cited that experienced miners employed in the mine are unable a as a rule to discriminate between ores of high grade and those carrying marks the strike of the mineral deposition is the existence of a north and south fissure filled throughout by a decomposed material consisting mostly of clay and tale talc but which carries no values to speak of this locally knoon as the great gouge is traceable for several miles and is known to wave wave and wind considerably while keeping the same general course the quartzite formation through which it passes has been impregnated with gold to a varying extent in a great areat open out cut half way up the mountain side on the de lamar group the character of this gouge 11 is readily observed the lower tunnel known the mountain from the tenth to the fifth is an electrically operated skip used solely for a manway A rock walled chute passes from the higher levels to the tenth connecting with which all the ore is sent to the tenth level there loaded into cars and crammed to the mill the mine timbers are unloaded and framed at tunnel no 5 and distributed by gravity to the below the ore is dout out in immense chambers many of which are from 40 to feet wide and 80 to 00 met feet long well ti timbered up in square sets and as the work proceeds upward the space between sets is filled with waste r r 71 W n 11 W R 1 1 J 52 Z vr Z TA DE LAMAR MINES DE LAMAR NEVADA APRIL FOOL MINES no values but it se seems seema ems tobe to be a case in which a great zone one of the chart on which is recorded the assay value of the ore from every block or square set on any level or in the mine mine prom from forty to fiat fifty y assays essays are made each day from ores collected by bv the sampler from which the daily record is made up As is crene generally nilly known the mill is a cyanide reduction plant in which the ores pass through a coarse c rusher crusher thence thi through our h griffin mills of which there are thirteen in number and by which the material is ground to from 60 to 80 itis it is carried by conveyors elevators to the pulp tanks and
