Show BLUE LEDGE MINING DISTRICT from park city record A trip through 11 the blue ledge r mining I 1 di district s ti act proved very interesting to the record reporter this week for the reason it was his 1 I 1 is first visit to this section and probably the last for the season owing to the approaching inar 1 winter but more especially as he was accompanied compa nied by mr henry welsh a gentl gentleman g ernan familiar with every foot of the country and who was able to and did point out many in in locations several of which have had much to do with tho the history of park city the greatest 0 rea test mining camp in the state and with a mineral district which with its o reat possibilities bili ties natural advantages and wealth should be the greatest crrea test on earth nothing outside the rel regular aular order of things thinas was found at the ontario the old standby stand by but just above we found that old prospector prospector and miner jack creen at the Nail driver mr creen with two men was en engaged ared I 1 in C utting cutting a station for a windlass at the 1000 foot mark in the tunnel preparatory to sink ing an incline on the ore chute to gain depth the vein is between seven and eight r feet wide and splendid looking in material at that in cutting cutti ncr the station a body of fine ore was disclosed and is being r taken out about ten tons of first class is now on the dump and a quantity of second class this first class will run 00 gozs silver 45 to 75 5 per cent lead to ane ton while the second class will all pay for working I 1 if sorted a little I 1 mr creen in response to numerous inquiries as to the values of several pieces picked off the dump showed says which we copied and which read as follows no I 1 assay 3 gozs silver 45 per cent lead gold no 2 assay 59 gozs silver 17 per cent lead gold gold assay no 3 showed gozs silver lead ore is being r taken out right along alon from f rom the tunnel level and there are few mines in this locality that can make such a as the Nail Mail driver at the same depth mr air C creen re c eil expects and no doubt will realize much better things when a little more depth is obtained all who know him and that includes everybody in this and surround surrounding ill country hope that his fondest dreams may be realized for he has spent a lifetime almost in pursuit of what there a particle of doubt but what at last found proceeding on the next working claim on oil the route proved pro v ed to be the arrasate wasatch Alra sate h hero here were found herman bergand companion coi driving t on the main tunnel 1 now in feet they are at present running on a streak of lead silver ore about one foot t wide and expect to reach the main body with every shot as a large deposit is known M to be close by in getting to the present face of the tunnel a 1 1 chute of ore about twenty feet thick has been run un through and it is more than likely that sinking sinkin Lr on it will soon be in order but at present they are running fr the tunnel right ight 1 on the ledge sorting cr and piling the shipping ore in a crosscut in the tunnel the waste being run out and thrown over ov er the dump of this ore they now have about twenty tons on hand b and and hope to make a shipment beffre snow blockades the road the aavo essays assays f from n ore gave gave returns of 50 per cent lead leady 40 silver and some gold that the boys good r thing there is every indic indication atio n ha h ea A short distance farther on we lucy under lease to john came to te and ja ial kearns here john m kearns is is steadily ing at present work C crosscutting for the vein north to southwest t he has from two tunnel elsIn this property one about 85 feet and the 70 feet long he is making makin about other oth I 1 ten feet week single handed banded a and I 1 n expects to be in the vein sometime this month by bv takino taking a cross trail we shortly found ourselves in glencoe gulch where is located the glencoe mine owned by W nl curtis W INI johnson is in charge of the work and for the past six or eight months with a force of men has been repairing the old tunnel this work is nearly nearl Y completed and thes the are now nov sinking on the vein at the 1600 foot mark in the tunnel from here ore is being taken out all the time and there is now quite a quantity of first class sn the dump A little ore is being screened daily for jigging I 1 which will be done as soon as the volume of water will w ill permit water however no wever is a scarce article but a two months supply in the spring from melted snow is certain and in all likelihood a small battery will be installed acthia at this time to pulverize the rock for jigging ill the led ledge lede e f from rom which ore is now coming is about three feet wide and there is no guesswork guess as to its values considerable has been shipped it is just possible that jigging operations may commence sooner most any time as by cleaning the tunnel a little farther in a flow 0 of f water sufficient to prevent freezing 1 maybe 0 obtained from a rough n n guess abess we would place the amount of first class on the lower dump at forty or afif fifty ty tons and there is also a good croo d quantity on the upper dump the character of ore and its extent certainly leaves leava no doubt of the existence of a great mine here and it looks to be equally certain that the glencoe holds the key to the whole mineral deposits thereabouts at any rate our opinion is that this property will yet stand out as one of the bonanzas bo Danzas and we hope it will prove so just above the glencoe are located the crescent and sultan claims here james pearson one of the owners and john are working doing doina development ard and assessment work in the sultan tb they ey are drift io east an and d west to a gold arold ledge ledcke running quite a quantity of ore has alre already ady been encountered place but w here her e though not in place that t the he main there is every reason to believe tunnel f body is not far distant the where the drift is started is in ab about out 60 feet fe in the crescent th they cy are drift drifting to contact conta ore at a distance in of about feet some has been taken out that will pay for the on oil work farther up the assessment NO and utica forest grove sultan extension tor 2 claims has been comp completed feted with able indications |
