Show MINING metallurgical RESEARCH fellowships AT UTAH university invitation is hereby extended to qualified men to make application for fellowships in the department of mining and metallurgical research university of utah during the year 1927 1928 this department is maintained in connection with the intermountain experiment station of the united states bureau of mines and is a department of co opera tive research maintained by these two organizations fellows work under the supervision of experts in this department recent appropriations of the utah legislature permit of a considerable expansion of the department during the coming year during the coming year 1927 1928 the problems to be investigated are 1 flotation fundamentals on flotation of pure minerals and gangue constituents a physical chemical investigations b experimental investigations 2 of zinc study of losses in present practice and of their prevention where not due to mechanical causes 3 of lead purification oti of lead leach liquors 4 tn of complex lead zinc ores 5 differential sulphating sulp hating of complex ores and concentrates to facilitate subsequent separation by milling or leaching 6 of lead A study of the forms in which lead is lost in lead blast furnace flags and of methods for prevention of these losses there are several fellowships to be awarded each having an annual net value of these fellowships are open fo t 0 college graduates who have had a good training in chemistry and metallurgy and applications for them will be received ceia ed up to may 1 1927 applicants should send a copy of their records from the registrars office of the college where they have or will be graduated and the names and addresses of at least three references who know their character ability and attainments holders of these fellowships will be subject to the rules governing employees of the united states bureau of mines and will report for duty about july 1 1927 they must also register as students in the university of utah and become candidates for the degree of master of science unless this or an equivalent degree has been previously earned their time will be devoted to classroom class room library and laboratory work fellows are appointed for one year but the appointment may be renewed address applications to joseph F merrill director of the utah uta h state school of mines and engineering university of utah salt lake city utah |
