Show VALLEY COUNTY IDAHO MINING ACTIVITY PROMISES TO OPEN UP A NEW REGION should the forest service accept the recommendation fo for broad road construction made by state mine inspector campbell by building from yellow pine in valley county to shoup in lemhi leahi county a vast highly mineralized and heavily timbered section of idaho would be thrown open to production that is now closed also we would havea have a highway crossing central idaho as state highways now end at yellow pine and shoup states ravenal macbeth secretary of the idaho mining association in submitting the following clipping from the boise statesman of the S stewart campbell Caim state lin inspector of mines returned to boise recently from valley county idaho where he made an official visit to the hall interstate mine which is being operated by the bunker hill and sullivan mining concentrating cent rating company of kellogg mr campbell also visited the cinnabar and meadow creek mines at yellow pine I 1 at the hall interstate which the bunker hill and sullivan interests have been developing during the past three years a mill of tons daily capacity and a horsepower hydroelectric plant are under construction with a crew of fifty imen men employed at present mr campbell reports one of the newest and most substantial enterprises to start in the state during the year is that of fred W bradley of san francisco at the meadow creek and cinnabar mines near yellow pine mr bradley is president of the bunker hill and sullivan company the property being operated by mr bradley the cinnabar group of claims and the meadow meado v creek group of gold claims is owned by the united mercury mines company united mercury at work for years f these properties have been continuously developed during the past seven years by the united mercury mines company until acquired by mr bradley in the early part of f 1927 mr campbell said since that time new naw buildings J have ve been constructed at t the he former site of operations at both properties also a new set of buildings on the meadow creek group iffet from the old site the vein on the old meadow creek has been traced on the surface for a distance of feet and the new camp will open the vein at an additional depth of feet vertically and fet horizontally from the present scene of operations in addition to constructing new camp buildings building sand and an entire new camp the operators are transporting more than fifty tons of supplies into the three camps where it is proposed to conduct active mining operations throughout the winter more than fifty men will be employed should the results of this winters development work maintain therold the gold values now shown by the meadow creek property idaho bids fair to have a mine that will compare favorably with the great homestake Home stake gold mine in south dakota only trails where roads are needed one of the strange features of this operation is that it is the only mining enterprise of any importance in the united states where the mines have to ibe be reached over a trail and where all of the supplee emust be delivered to the mines by packhorse pack horse the railroad point for this operation is cascade and from there an excellent highway extends to yellow pine all supplies are delivered to yellow pine by motor truck and from there transported to the two mines by packhorse a distance of approximately ten miles the pack trail from yellow pine to the mine is a water grade trail following the east fork of the south fork of the salmon river this river flows through a comparatively comparative tv wide canyon and no difficulties would be encountered in the construction of a road through the canyon it can safely be said that the large amount of development in deadwood basin including the power plant and mill now under tinder construction can be attributed directly to the building of the forest highway which serves this mine anine into that district this large enterprise followed within two years the construction of the highway so it is safe to assume that if the meadow creek and cinnabar mines were accessible to transportation these properties would ibe witnessing 0 a similar activity at present 00 every effort should be made to havethe have the highway constructed ted from yellow pine to shoup as soon as POSS FOSSIL ible particularly that part of it which will serve the yellow pine n basin mines i since these properties are arc practically proven the least two new large minin mining enterprises will ibe added to da 11 s ates states l mining industry as soon as the transi transportation por tation a curties are arc overcome by the construction of this road |
