Show WHAT CAN BE DONE TO RECRUIT SKILLED LABOR RANKS concern over the supply of skilled labor necessary to Amre ican industries is reflected in a bulletin issued a few days ago ag o by the department of manufacture chamber of commerce of the united states at a recent dinner honoring industrial veterans the bulletin says one concern more than aw men who had been in its employ from 25 to 60 years actors pass ingoff lifes stage how are they with their skill and experience peri ence to be replaced we can no longer depend upon trained immigrants or upon neighboring plants as sources of supply moreover in in securing volume production from expensive laborsaving labor saving machinery commensurate with its cost it must ibe be placed in trained and careful hands again suggesting systematic training unfortunately there are still those who say that we can go out and hire what skill lwe we need perhaps some can do this in certain localities where others have been doing the training but it is obvious that were this policy universally ver sally adopted there must soon come an end to this supply p ly of skill and if we face the facts many sections have already seen the handwriting on the wall the most effective answer the bulletin continues is a citation of facts young american boys are being bein inducted into trades and shops in certain localities where attractive training has been developed industrial success and prosperity are turning the eyes of the younger generation to in in du opportunities and away from the so called white collar jobs communities and trade associations it is pointed out are beginning aing to make surveys to ascertain apprenticeship needs I 1 and individual companies are adopting apprenticeship training |
