| Show DEATH OF JUDGE E V HIGGINS judge E V higgins 67 formerly assistant attorney general of utah and widely known throughout the mining west died at the home of his daughter mrs N W glaeser at palo alto cal on the ath instant following a long siege of illness interment was at palo alto judge higgins heard many important cases during his career in utah As district judge he presided at the first trial of the noted case of the mammoth mining company against the grand central mining company his reputation as an attorney was extensive and fellow jurists declare he held high ideals regarding the ethics of the pro bession fes sion he was born november 14 1858 in newfield new york k the son of croydon W and harriet chapin higgins lie ale was ms graduated from park college parkville Par kville mo in 1882 with the bachelor of arts degree he studied law in kans ansas as city ty mo law schools and was admitted to the bar of missouri in 1883 and in kansas in 1884 he practiced syracuse 11 kan until april 1890 when he moved to utah and was ms admitted to the bar here he practiced law here til 1894 when he moved to cedar city in 1896 he was married to alice M mcafee he was elected jud 10 ae of the fifth judicial ial district and held the bench until unelio 1900 he resumed d the practice of law and in april held 1911 i was made ade assistant attorney general of utah he thi toa S post until i january andary 1917 it T n 1902 he had ad formed a partnership with E W senior u der the nt firm name of higgins senior which assoria ton llon continued until 1907 salt since 1919 he has been engaged in private practice in since lake I 1 city following an extended sojourn in california with 1924 10 his s son roger ger C higgins had been associated also hin r under the firm name of higgins hi higgins gg ins he practiced ed law in nevada ada for a short time du during ring his career no alo about ut two months ns ago judge and mrs higgins went to hiar alto alto to visit their daughter mrs N W glaeser mr is ls survived ived by his widow alice M higgins two sons R art roger c higgins ns of salt lake and paul higgins an glar Glae student s serf of of mexico city and his daughter mrs N W oi palo alto |
