Show ASKING MILLIONS TO investigate POTASH DEPOSITS IN UNITED STATES congress is being asked to appropriate millions of dollars for the purpose of investigating potash deposits in the united states by the geological survey and similar work As announced the following is a review of what action has so far been taken senator sheppard dem texas introduced S 1821 referred referred to committee on agriculture appropriating for each of the next five years for investigations by the geological survey and agricultural department of the location and extent of potash deposits in the united states and improving methods of recovering potash representative hudspeth dem texas introduced H R referred to mines and mining committee appropriating pria iria p 1 ting for each of the next five years for investigations by the geological survey purvey to determine the location and extent of potash deposits in the united states representative tf rep ore introduced H R referred to public lands committee to promote potash mining on public lands through permits and leases prospecting permits for 2560 acres for two years would be issued by the interior department S uch such permits would not he be issued to lands near searles lake california upon a showing of potash the would be entitled to a lease at a royalty payment to the government of 2 per cent of of the quantity or gross value of the output except sodium lands known to contain valuable deposits of potash not covered by permits or leases shall be leased at public auction by the department in 2560 acre tracts at 2 per cent royalty an advance It Ivance rental of 25 cents per acre for the first year and 50 cents per ae acre re for the second to fifth years and 1 per er y year ea r thereafter leases to be for 20 years with right to ren renew ew prospecting permits or leases may be issued for deposits of potassium in public lands also containing deposits of coal or other mineral on condition tha tsuch other deposits be reserved to the government for disposition under a appropriate i laws |
