Show METAL MINING IN COLORADO 1925 SHOWS MUCH GREATER ACTIVITY the output of gold silver copper lead and zinc from colorado ores in 1925 in terms of recovered and estimated recoverable metal was in gold ounces of silver pounds of copper pounds of lead and pounds of zinc according to chas W henderson these figures are to be compared with in gold ounces of silver pounds of copper pounds of lead and pounds of zinc in 1924 the figures show an increase of 34 per cent in the production of silver in 1925 32 per cent in the production of lead and aj per cent in the output of zinc the production of gold declined 16 per cent and the copper production showed a loss of 8 per cent at present estimated average prices for silver copper lead and zinc the value of the output of these metals in 1925 was silver copper lead and zinc these values together with that for gold give a gross value of the output of for 1925 as compared with for 1924 an increase of about or 12 per cent year proves an active one there has been a notable increase in the number of men employed in colorado metal mines in 1925 many of the ampre important mines have operated days of the year of the smaller properties many which operated only one month in 1924 have operated full time for six to twel twelve ve ni months 0 many old properties were reopened as the year 1925 progressed so that december represents the maximum operations often in the past the winter and early spring months have been seasons of curtailed operations the si simultaneously high prices for lead and zinc and the search for lead and zinc ores have been the causes of the activity in development the tons of ore mined and marketed in 1925 and the estimated recoverable content do not reflect accurately the improvement and activity in the industry the reopening of mines which have been idle for a year to twenty years means the expenditure of much time and labor some operators such as the leadville deep mines company of carbonate hill at leadville started to in august 1923 but were unable to complete the removal of the accumulated water until july 1925 actual mining after july was handicapped by broken timber and mud filled workings lake county leadville and vicinity is looking forward to greatly increased production in 1926 in 1925 the arkansas valley lead blast smelter started with four furnaces bof of the eight on the property treating ore from leadville aspen creede ouray telluride and clear creek gilpin boulder counties as well as surplus ore released by utah smelters shelters sm elters from park city utah and ended the year with five furnaces in operation much slog from early lead smelters shelters sm elters at leadville was added to the charges on the furnaces the western zinc oxide companas Comp anys wetherill furnaces were operated throughout the year on low grade average 16 per cent zinc carbonate ores the leadville district gravity concentration mill was operated until Decem december beron on the coarsely disseminated pyrite gold ore from the southern area of the ibex property new flotation mill starting shortly after january first the co colorado lorado lead zinc company will start its ton selective flotation mi mill 11 under construction in november and december this custom mill built in california gulch just above the arkansas valley smelter is planned to treat lead zin zi ore from th the e lead ville deep mines yak mines resurrection mine and other properties the general manager of the american smelting smelling Sm elting refining company reports receipts from aspen pitkin county for the first nine months of 1925 shipments of tons of silver ore lime flux from the durant and spar mines as compared with tons for the same period in 1924 in addition the smuggler jig and table concentration mill was put in operation in october and the hunter creek concentration cent ration mill is to be equipped with selective flotation equipment to provide for ores expected to be removed as the result of new development work in the district lead zinc inco ome jLe was shipped from lenado benado north of aspen the empire zinc company has shipped from its eagle mine at gilman eagle county its usual heavy contribution of zinc and zinc lead milling ores and some silver iron sulphide ores it is reported that much new development will be done at this mine during the winter park county produced in placer gold from the dredge at fairplay which ceased operations in may it will be dismantled gold ores were shipped from the london mine and silver lead ore from the home sweet home mine the wellington mine and mill at breckenridge summit county shipped zinc and lead concentrate as well as lead carbonate smelting smelling sm elting ore the blue river dredge below breckenridge was destroyed by fire in june and has not been repaired the tonopah dredge below breckenridge was closed down in october and is offered for sale development I 1 work at montezuma resulted in shipments of lead zinc ore to utah and late in the year the saint john property was taken under option the dredge and placer mines near breckenridge produced in 1925 as compared with in 1924 no great quantity of ore ord was shipped from kokomo kokomos during the year but on novem november er 1 the american metal company began work with twenty five men repairing and cleaning M the wilfley and kimberley adits adias in preparation for exploration for lead zinc iron sulphide ore bodies in an area of 1500 acres under tinder lease the climax molybdenum company near kokomo kokomos operated its mine and mill continually in 1925 milling in december at the rate of tons per month |
