Show PARK UTAH consolidated MINES CO PERFECTS HAULAGE EQUIPMENT SCHEME in order to insure the handling of products of its west side mines without interruption the whole year round and at a fraction of the cost involved by old methods the park utah consolidated mines company park city has placed its new aerial tramway in commission and reports state that it is working splendidly the upper terminal of this new automatic aerial carrier is located in empire canyon at the portal of the large haulage tunnel that connects with the workings of the old daly west and daly judge fudge mines and which with the original park utah mine min i e daly and ontario on the east of these properties completes the park utah consolidated Consolidate ds empire of mineral territory cutting through the heart of the park city district for nine miles with the completion of this installation the park utah consolidated mines company now has three outlets for the production of its vast properties by which surface haulage of ores from the workings working and the transport of machinery timbers and supplies into the various mine workings is entirely eliminated the east end property the park utah is served by the famous ontario drain and transportation tunnel the ontario and daly through a tunnel which connects the mine with the lower terminal station while the product of the other big properties to the west find an outlet through the operating tunnel connecting those mines with the milling plant and upper terminal of the tramway so that it is now possible to load every ton of direct shipping ores from these bonanza mines direct into railroad cars without handling after being loaded into cars in the mine workings no matter whether they amount to 1000 to tons a day the mill product treated in the company plant at the foot of the upper tram terminal is elevated and sent over the tram to the lower terminal where it also is dumped direct into railroad cars for transportation to smelter destination thus the mammoth companas comp anys transportation problems have been solved and simplified for all time tramway is feet in length the new tramway is feet in le length and embraces what is known as the trenton treefon type it was planned and constructed by engineers of the american steel an and dWire wire company and is rated as being one of the finest and most complete installations ever built in the west several unusual and difficult problems have been solved with entire satisfaction all of the lumber coal timbers and other ingoing supplies are hauled on the return trip the various grades of mine products zinc concentrates concentrate sy lead concentrates and crude ore are handled easily and econome economically cally by wholly automatic systems difference in elevation between the upper and lower terminals is feet on the down track inch lock coil steel cable has been used on the return inch cable the traction cable is ya inch lange lay cable towers are all steel of heavy construction with concrete bases there are five towers and two two bent supports and one three bent support maximum five feet and the minimum six sixteen height of the towers is fifty feet cubic foot capacity type with a buckets are of the ten friction grip which precludes the danger of runaways buckets tray travel el at a speed of feet a minute which makes the tramway one of the fastest in use two speeds are provided which insures adaptability of operation if in in transporting materials such as long timbers conditions do not favor a speed of feet a minute the rate of movement can be reduced to beeta feet a minute r f terminal facilities and equipment Th the lower elower terminal lat at the mouth of the ontario no I 1 r drai drainage nage tunnel is a structure ninety feet long thirty wide sixty feet high comprising four stories the fourth floor represents the discharge station where the ore is is automatically dropped into railroad cars below the second and third floors are used as storerooms store rooms for supplies on the first floor is the timber framing department and the the sawmill from the yards surrounding the terminal station timber is conveyed into the first floor by monorail system to be framed from the saws the timber is loaded on timber trucks for distribution through the ontario mine timber for the judge properties is loaded on timber carriers these are raised by elevators to the tramway floor and switched on the main tram line without interfering in the least with the movement of ore handling of bulky materials after reaching the upper terminal adjoining the judged judge concentrator the load is mechanically dropped onto the timber truck which is elevated directly to the main motor haulage age of the for distribution underground supplies and ad other materials are handled in a similar manner coal for the various properties is dropped from the railroad cars at the lower terminal and elevated by bucket conveyor to the main tramway floor and sent to them the judge terminal in returning ore buckets the loaded coal buckets are automatically tripped a short distance before reaching the upper terminal and dropped through a pipe to the boiler room bins from here a conveyor carries the coal to an automatic pulverized fuel stoker from the time the coal is unloaded at the ontario loading station until it is consumed at ai the judge plant it is not ilot touched by anyone coal for use at the various mines is elevated to the main haulage way levet level and distributed underground in the same manner as timber and other supplies Tr trams arris capacity is 1000 tons daily concentrates must be conveyed from the mill to the tramway loading station it was at first thought that tha t the belt conveyors could not successfully carry this moist material but the operation hash has proved entirely feasible and no trouble has been experienced with the concentrates sticking to the belt which elevates the mill product to the measuring pockets for loading in six hours the entire daily production of the mill amounting i g to tons can be handled ore is carried from the upper mine bins by belt conveyors directly to the measuring pockets for loading on tram buckets in unloading the ore at the lower terminal the ore is dropped directly from the tram buckets into railroad cars chute capacity ample enough to hold a forty five minute run of the tramway while cars are changed has been provided so that operation of the tramway need not be interrupted electricity supplies power for all purposes on the full return load as horsepower is used for lowering from 2 to ay 2 horsepower capacity of the tramway is tons daily at a slight additional expenditure this capacity can be materially increased |
