Show MINING AND metallurgical RESEARCH PROGRAM AT U OF U NEXT YEAR problems that are of great importance to the mining industry of utah are being investigated by the department of mining and metallurgical research of the university of utah which is maintained in connection with the intermountain experiment station of the U S bureau of mines during the year 1923 24 five important problems are to be investigated the close of which may mean a savi saving of hundreds of thousands of dollars do clars to mine operators of the west it may make the treating and marketing of the present time unprofitable ores a profitable venture the problems to be studied are ara ore dressing dealing with crushing and flotation physical chemical investigations relative to chloride and oxides of base metals physical chemical investigations relative to the transformation of oil shale hydra metallurgy of zinc and recovery of zinc from lead furnace flags and treatment of complex mixed ores by chemical methods there are several fellowships to be awarded to students who are college graduated and who have had good training in chemistry and metallurgy this work from a pure productive viewpoint is one of the most important to be carried on a at t the university of utah during the next year |
