Show MATHESON DRILLING MACHINE INVENTION BEING PERFECTED BY SURVIVING SON H denton matheson son of the late john D matheson who was for a long time superintendent of drilling operations for the walter fitch junior contracting co and who died in this city late in february has been in salt lake recently closing up his fathers affairs mr matheson left for denver about a week ago where he will be interested for some time in having perfected a new drilling machine equipment that was invented by his father and which was being perfected at the time of his death john D matheson had won the distinction of being the champion drilling expert in the united states his crowning achievement being in smashing all previous worlds records by sinking the water lily shaft for the chief consolidated mining company at eureka feet in thirty one days he had previously made several worlds records in shaft and tunnel work and at the time of his death was working out a scheme of handling drilling machines through the use of which he expected to eclipse all previous records for speed it is understood that his son H denton matheson has determined to take up and perfect the invention of his father so that the splendid reputation of the latter shall not be dimmed in the future to that end it is reported the son will be aided by the denver rock drill manufacturing co in perfecting the matheson machine which is said to be nothing revolutionary in character simply an arrangement by which it will be possible to expedite drilling by making it possible to handle two or three machines at the same time as easily as it has been possible to operate one in the past in tunnel contracting particularly it is claimed the new matheson device will prove its worth and capacity and that particulars concerning the invention will be ready for release in the near future |
