Show CATLIN SHALE PLANT OIL TAKEN BY POWER COMPANY FOR FUEL for the first time in the history of nevada a nevada industry will obtain its motive power through t the use of oil produced in the state says the elko free press this rather unique and at the same time portentous development in the history of this state was made known this morning by officials of the elko lamoille power company with the announcement that they had contracted with the catlin shale plant of this city for a good portion of the output of the local oil producing plant with which the power company intends to run their big diesel engine during the winter months when snow makes it impossible to obtain power from the lamoille plant the exact quantity of oil to be used was not divulged by the power company for the engine is run for different lengths of time on different days and the oil consumption is not uniform from one day to the next the oil has been tested out by the oil campay in the past and has been found to be of a very high 6 grade much more satisfactory in fact than that which has been purchased from other sources and it is for that reason as well as the desire to assist as much as possible in the furtherance of a growing nevada industry that the power company con for the fuel oil for their big engine this is the first time so far as is known in which an industry of any size within the state has generated its motive power through b the use of oil produced in the state and this is regarded as marking 6 an epoch in the history of the state for it marks the passing of the catlin shale plant from the experimental stage into the commercial field and close observers of the fortunes of the local plant are unanimous in their belief that the day is not far distant when catlin products will be known all over the western coast and will be sufficient in quantity to more than supply the oil and gasoline needs of the state wherein they are produced |
