of american silv silver r producers held at reno nevada at the call of the united states senate committee on gold and silver inquiry announced the names of twelve of the fifteen committeemen authorized by the conference for the purpose of investigating and formulating a plan for the organization b of a silver export association with a view of improving conditions in the silver mining industry C F kelly president of the anaconda copper company is named by mr ferry as chairman of the committee and the remaining eleven men selected are residents of this country and particularly qualified to perform the weighty task assigned to them it is understood that in the selection of the remaining members of the committee mr ferry will see that other silver producing countries outside of america are given recognition particularly canada and mexico in his letter of announcement mr ferry says text of nominating resolutions at a conference of american silver producers held at reno september 56 5 6 called by the united states senate commission of gold and silver inquiry the following resolution was unanimously adopted resolved that it is the sense of this convention of silver producers assembled at reno nevada this ath day of september A D 1923 that 1 I A silver export association be organized under the webb pomerene act and under such amendments to such act as may be had 2 that a committee of not less than fifteen members representative of the silver mining industry of the united states and such other countries as desire to participate be appointed by the chair within two weeks from date which committee shall be authorized and directed to pro aeed ed immediately to the consideration and formulation of a plan and if a satisfactory plan can be agreed upon that such an export port association shall be organized 3 that said committee shall have power to appoint a subcommittee bc ommittee or subcommittees to conduct such work and to act subject to the approval of the committee 14 4 that the committee shall from time to time as illy y be advisable report their action to the members who now constitute or who may hereafter constitute the mem enship arhip of this body or any body arising As I 1 was elected chairman of the conference it becomes my duty to appoint members of the committee men leoned ned above after inviting and receiving suggestions from many sources ces I 1 have selected this committee committe ei made up tip of twelve me en th thus us leaving at least three places to be hereafter filled T aree ee s subsequent appointments will be made as soon as it deenie deemed d best and after careful consideration is is expected and planned that the committee named will study dy the question involved from the standpoint of world conditions and particularly from the standpoint of american producers american producers of course including producers of canada and mexico and perhaps also of south america careful consideration is being given to mexican and canadian representation and announcement of these appointments point ments will be made at a later date committees personnel and duties the personnel of this committee is distinguished and impressive it is composed of outstanding figures in several fields the field of finance international trade executive engineering and metallurgical ability are well represented the producers have properly been given control of the committee and are represented by able and experienced perien ced m men n the committee s duty is to collect facts affecting the silver industry and to formulate a plan for its improvement its spirit will be constructive and cooperative and its aim will be to unite in one purpose the producer the smelter and refiner and the marketing b agency when some plan s shall hall have been formulated by this committee the pan american silver producers association will be reassembled the plan submitted and definite action taken to carry on aggressively the plan
