Show RETIRING UTAH COPPER OFFICIAL BANQUETED on the evening of the previous to his leaving for los angeles john M hayes for many years treasurer of the utah copper company was given a most complimentary send off at a dinner given in his honor at the alta aita club by about sixty five of his close business associates and friends the gathering was largely composed of utah coppe per and bingham garfield railway officials and employees those not directly connected with either company who were present presen were R of bingham P L hall of the interstate commerce commission R A russell and W H coombs of the firm of loomis suffern fernald certified public accountants ofner of new york R C gemmell general manager of the two companies acted as toastmaster other speakers of the evening were L S gates cates assistant general manager A C ellis who is credited with drawing up the contract between spencer penrose and the late col E A wall in 1902 that laid the foundation for the utah copper company dr A L castleman D D moffatt consulting engineer of the mills H C goodrich chief engineer of the utah copper company and the bingham garfield railway company R G lucas who recently became associated with the two companies as counsel F P G janney general superintendent of the mills at garfield F 0 haymond superintendent of the railway C T S parsons assistant cashier and C al brown tax agent following the addresses mr hayes was presented with a silver tea service and a diamond stickpin in responding to the presentation sen tation mr hayes related how he had come to utah thirty five years ago and with the help of frank J cannon had bad started the first morning newspaper er in ogden in the spring of 1904 he became connected with the utah copper company gradually rising until he was promoted to the position of treasurer in 1913 |
