pass an act granting a bonus of 10 per ounce on all the new gold produced in the united states it appears that it is positively necessary that we have more gold in order to handle the business of the country and only in this way can a sufficient gold production be secured such a law would materially advance legitimate gold mining in southern nevada for there are many excellent properties which could be successfully operated then which cannot at this time beca because iise the gold content in the ores is just enough to pay expenses and this bonus would give a legitimate return mining engineers and geologists of international repute have reported favorably on these fields after exhaustive examinations and with this government bonus it would greatly stimulate aggressive operations las vegas natural outfitting outwitting Out fitting point las vegas is the center and natural out fitting point of a wonderful mining field and development only is necessary to demonstrate the wonderful resources right at our doors not only have we enormous gold bearing veins in this section but the deposits are also extremely valuable and if operations be prosecuted on an extensive scale it will add a very large amount to the monthly payroll in this field it is only a short distance from las vegas to the colorado river the interstate waterway of arizona colorado utah and california and in the bed of this stream and in the gravel bars alongside of it government officials have estimated untold millions absolutely cutely in sight As a matter of fact it is asserted that there is plenty of gold in the colorado river between the mouth of the grand canyon and the big 1319 bend of the river a distance of less than one hundred miles to pay the national debt several times over F prom roin time to time eminent geologists and mining engineers have made examinations of this promising field and without ex dation they have placed their stamp of approval on it as a region of great promise in the production of gold in fact it is the one exceptionally rich gold field which is yet in its infancy of development and this too from the accepted theory though without any foundation whatever in fact t that the gold could not be saved except with th a bucket dredge and this method would squire require an initial expenditure of or and very few prospectors could in any event ent raise so vast a sum that the gold is there no one has denied and in commercial quantities even at the present price of gold 18 or 20 per ounce and with the government bonus of 10 per ounce for all new gold it is the psychological time to inaugurate active and extensive operations in this section many experts favor the field professor saladine a famous french geol ogist several years ago made a thorough examination of the field and gave it his endorsement dor and more recently professor A A a mining geologist and consulting engineer spent eleven weeks in the district and his samples averaged about 85 cents to the cubic yard by assay test these samples run from 39 cents the lowest to the highest and 97 per cent of the gold can be amalgamated robert jacobson a mining engineer very favorably known in the southwest states that his average of more than samples was between 50 and 60 cents to the cubic yard of gravel eli hitty a thoroughly experienced practical placer miner states that he has taken more than samples and the general average was at least 50 cents and on one occasion when the writer was with him he took several samples and the general average of these samples was to the cubic H smith of kingman secured a yard from many samples new dredging scheme talked of but more recent tests have entirely discarded the bucket dredge and it is now positively known that the gold content in these auriferous deposits can all be secured with a suction dredge and this method being the proper one tor for the recovery of the gold known to exist in the seams and crevices in the bed of the river and as the gold has been accumulating for ages it is conclusive that there is a vast amount to be recovered about half way between griggs ferry bend sandy harris a veteran and the big
