Show FIRE LAWS TO BE ENFORCED notwithstanding the very hazardous condition now prevailing throughout the intermountain ter mountain country reports of numerous cases of carelessness with fire within the national forests are being received by the ogden office of the forest service A rigorous enforcement of the state and federal laws prohibiting carelessness in use of fire on public lands is today being ordered by the forest service in his letter of instruction to the field officers the district forester calls attention to the fact that the newspapers of he intermountain territory have for years given wide publicity to the need for care in the use of fire on open lands in addition the national forests are plentifully sprinkled with posters and notices quoting the federal laws and the penalties prescribed for violations thereof the states also have laws on their statute books to which wide publicity has been given by state officers notwithstanding these facts hundreds of fires due to human agency occur each year and most of them bear evidence of wilful neglect or gross carelessness the interests at stake are too great to permit a continuance of this condition ana hereafter persons guilty of starting forest fires will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law |
