Show 0 GET TOGETHER MEETING the utah section of the american institute of 0 mining metallurgical engineers held its first meeting and gave its first banquet for the year 1919 on monday evening april 7 at the hotel utah about members and guests being present the guests of honor on this happy occasion being dr horace B winchell II president of the national association of the organization prof C R keith who but recently returned from a mission to england and france in behalf of our government prof james F kemp of columbia university and senator reed smoot of utah in a few witty original and timely remarks chairman charles stimpson introduced the toastmaster for the evening parson peter simpkins of salt lake who in turn in a few well chosen and happy sentences introduced prof Wili chell II who made a most interesting talk on conditions in russia and closed with a recital of the objects and aims of the institute he was followed by prof keith who discussed the coal and mineral conditions in alsace lorraine and told of the destruction and devastation caused by the ruthless germans and also the complex questions attending the subject of the payment of in prof kemp who is a noted geologist gave a very entertaining talk closing with a glowing tribute to the wonderful opportunities port unities offered by the west senator smoot concluded with a few trite and timely remarks in which h he e emphasized pha sized his love for his country and his desire to do his duty in connection with his high office the meeting closed by giving a screen picture of the rand coal and iron min mines es the dinner was excellent and the occasion was enlivened with music by a select band |
