in its various camps as regards working conditions and production and it has every reason to believe that these satisfactory conditions will continue to prevail coal from carbon county utah held up in transit last week by the government has been released and is now moving through as billed without interference the mines of carbon county are now producing from to tons of coal daily the liberty fuel company of latuda carbon county utah was recently visited by the heads of the company their report being that conditions were quite satisfactory and that virtually the full force and average production were being maintained frank N cameron general manager of the liberty fuel company at latuda utah has returned from a trip to san francisco where he investigated general coal conditions on the coast he was accompanied by sam C sherrill a director in the company increased coal production in colorado and new mexico with miners anxious to return to work in wyoming are encouraging features of the coal strike in the west from the viewpoint of the public which has but little sympathy with the arrogant attitude of organized labor indications are that the mutual coal company of salt lake will soon start opey oper actions recently contracts easements and rights of way were signed up by this company the morton coal company and the carbon coal company all operating in spring canyon carbon county utah james gray of colville washington superintendent perin of the colville valley collieries colli eries says he expects to ship fifty tons daily by december 1 and possibly by november 15 contractors are preparing for the erection of coal bunkers a cook house and bunk houses more men are being employed the american fuel company of sego utah is working a force of 90 per cent of its usual force and is producing about 75 per cent of normal R W van derek derck acting general manager who recently returned to salt lake from the mine reports conditions very satisfactory with employees showing gratifying loyalty towards the company which he ascribes to the fact that the camp is solidly per cent american the coal miners strike in wyoming has very materially restricted general production the miners had had no trouble with th the e operators some of which had contracts with their employers extending into 1920 the men went out without warning and without giving the companies any notice having no grievances and tying up coal production almost completely for this reason the companies feel they have not been fairly dealt with authority has been requested by the oregon short line railroad of the united states railroad administration for permission to construct a spur from driggs idaho to the large coal deposits of the idaho coal mines company a few miles from that point there are thousands of tons of the coal on the dump and if permission is granted for the construction of the proposed road all of it will be available for distribution in a short time governor D W davis of idaho has interested himself in the matter and has wired to washington asking that immediate consideration be given the case the best coal he has seen in the mine has been opened in running modern requirement such as water electric lights good plumbing and sanitary advantages while fine school houses club houses theatres theartres the atres dance halls amusement places and reading rooms have been constructed and provided in the mines also every precaution has been taken to prevent accident and every effort made to enable the men to work in safety and comfort |
