Show utah copper qua quarterly terly figures according to the thirty sixth quarterly report of the utah copper company covering the first quarter of 1917 the profits of the company were while tie output of copper was pounds so tar far as the records show no other mine in the world has earned so much during this period yet even this vast amount was under the record made by the mine during the last quarter of last year however the unusually bad and prolonged winter and the fact that big improvements are under way at the mills contributed to somewhat curtail the output the report which is signed by C M december I 1 total pounds average monthly production in addition to the above there was cz a total of pounds of copper contained in ore shipped direct to the smelter this together with the copper contained in the concentrates brings the total gross production for the quarter up to 40 0 pounds as compared to pounds for the previous quarter the total quantity of ore milled for the quarter was tons and the aver macneill president and D C jackling managing director in part follows the following tables show the gross production of copper contained in ill concentrates for this quarter and the preceding quarter first quarter 1917 pounds january february T march I 1 total pounds average monthly production fourth quarter 1916 pounds october octher november age grade of same was per cent copper as compared with tons and cent respectively for the per copper fourth quarter of the year 1916 the average extraction for t the lie quarter was per cent which was an improvement over the previous quarter when the average was per cent however the extrac tion for the quarter was still low partly on account of the unsettled condition and irregular mill feed caused by the unusually had bad weather and partly on account of the improvements that are being made in the arthur and magna plants also because the mills are still operated at considerably more than normal capacity throughout the entire quarter the weather was very cold and stormy and the winter just passed was the hardest one on record in this part of the country nevertheless the W plants milled the largest tonnage ever treated in the corresponding quarter ot of any year the following tabulation shows the financial results of of the operations of your company for the quarter under consideration and for the preceding quarter first quarter 1917 net profit from milling operations other income rents etc in utah income from nevada con copper co dividends income from bingham garfield ry co dividends I 1 total net profits dividends paid I 1 net surplus fourth quarter 1916 net pr profit from milling opera it eions other income rents etc in utah income f from roin nevada con copper co dividends income from bingham garfield ry co dividends total net profit dividends paid net surplus the above earnings are computed on the basis of cents per pound for copper for the quarter as compared with cents per pound for the fourth quarter of 1916 the regular dividend paid on oil march was at the rate ot of 10 per share per annum plus an extra dividend of 1 per share making a total of per share for the quarter tile the stripping work was much hampered and delayed on account of tile the diff difficulty of conducting surface operations at the mines during such severe weather and also on account of the shortage of coal these operations were entirely suspended on the four upper levels until about the middle or of march there vas removed during the quarter a total of cubic yards of capping being an average of cubic yards per month as compared with wit cubic yards and cubic yards respectively for the fourth quarter of 1916 |
