Show THE TREATMENT OF LOW GRADE the discovery of processes for the treatment of low grade ores during recent years has made it possible to successfully and profitably handle ores which have heretofore been practically untreatable of such ores there are thousands upon thousands of tons blocked out in hundreds hundred upon hundreds of mines and stored in old dumps and tailings ponds and this ore as a general thing can be milled at a handsome profit by means of one of two or three processes the cyanide process for instance lias has been so perfected that ores carrying a certain percentage of base metals can be worked to advantage and after the recovery of gold and silver contents the remaining value or values can be saved by ordinary concentration or leaching methods this fact should surely give encouragement T to owners of low grade gold or silver r artles who have been discouraged because t of not being able in the past to mill their ia silver and gold ores by cyaniding cyan iding because of the presence in the ore of a small percentage of copper or other rebellious metals A another process that is gaining rapidly 1 in public favor and which is being found adaptable in the treatment of quite a large variety of ores is the oil flotation method now being almost universally adopted throughout the mining regions of the korll i this is a comparatively new system for the ia dressing of ore and its success is so f parable as to give it rank as one of the wonders of the metallurgical age indeed its range of operation is so great that when any ore cannot be treated by any of the old and well known processes the usual advice given is to see if it will float in addition to the wonderful successes recorded in the treatment of ores by these two methods the mining man is still fur ther favored by the improvement in milling equipment and especially so in economies offered in improved ore crushing machinery the increasing advantages provided for by the utilization of electric power is also a factor in favor of the ore producer as is the improvement of trans P por or tation facilities by the adoption of the motor truck i with so many modern appliances offered the mining man at the present time li 1 1 I 1 should certainly feel that everything iq coming his way and if he does not avail himself of present opportunities and advantages he can hardly elicit much sympathy sampat lly if lie he complains of hard times and inability to make good with his property |
