Show 0 THE RIGHT KIND OF STOCKS years ago a salt lake broker used to a advertise dver tise that there is money on the right side of stocks and lie he might have added on the right kind of stocks the mining review is a great believer in the investment by the public in mining stocks and securities and can point to almost innumerable instances where investments of this chara character acter have made fortunes but our advice in this matter has always been accompanied with the proviso that in vestments should be made in the right kind of stocks of course it is sometimes difficult to de termine what is the right kind with so many constantly being offered by promoters and to correctly draw the line in separating the rod stock from abe th worthless is most difficult in many instances and especially is this the case with inexperienced investors many of whom have out little knowledge of willing mining affairs these in a measure however should be protected by the exercise of good judgment and rhe making of an analysis s of the proposition iu ill which they are invited invited to invest for instance no really sane and responsible company is going to offer for sale any part or all of its 1101 holdings lings for a cent or two a share when its property is known to possess an actual and proven value of a dollar to get something for almost nothing something that really seems to have an intrinsic lab value appears to be the insatiate rae d desire asire of many would be investors and athele these as a general tiling thing are the victims of some som mining companies who crowd the papers with display advertisements embellished with will illustrations showing a mine in which ore enough is blocked out and in i 3 place to 0 make a million dollar proposition the treasury stock of which is offered at a M 4 figure so ridiculously low and so little re q R abed to the alleged true value of the mine as to make the whole proposition look like a gobrick go gola brick affair with trimmings an inborn intuition should warn the proposed investor in such stocks that the whole thing is a frame up to get his money and if lie he does invest in any such proposition he should kiss his money bood bye for he will probably never see it again the slogan olf of the investor should be show me and his own good judgment should tell him what is the right kind of stocks 0 0 01 VOLUME NO 19 01 with this issue the mining review enters at upon the nineteenth year of its continuous eai publication from the very beginning the owners of this paper have firmly believed that there was room in this vast intermountain mining region for the establishment of a first class mining and milling journal and during all these years this idea has been adherer adhered ato to and year by year our efforts in this direction have been augmented until today 1 we are able to give the mining public a paper that we are proud of and which we believe has the endorsement and hearty approval and support of a large portion of the mining interests of this western country where such wonderful mining and milling activities prevail such as characterize operations throughout the western states no good reason exists why such industries should not be fostered and encouraged by what might well be termed a home paper and while such a publication cannot well hope to receive at the present time the broad support accorded similar service in densely populated centers still the home paper can doubtless accomplish more for these industries than possibly could by a foreign publication that has no material interest in the building up of the interests of the mining fields in the west and which the mining review from the very nature of conditions and environments must heartily support and encourage in order that its existence may be perpetuated and we feel that the mining alining review is an important factor in the encouragement of the industries it represents and we are satisfied that our readers after a careful perusal of its columns will agree with us in this belief it has always been the policy of the mining review to give reliable and accurate news regarding mining and milling operations and its stand in this matter cannot be swayed by any off offer er no matter how tempting or remunerative in no way is it a promotion sheet although it always has and always will give due recognition to legitimate mining enterprises no matter whether great or small for it well knows that all of our great producers anu and divi bend payers were at one time only prospects and that to stimulate the growth and progress of the mining industry the development of the meritorious prospect must be encouraged and it is no f fault ault of the legitimate operator or promoter that unscrupulous wild batters will enter the field it is the aim of the publishers of the mining review to give to its readers the best of the news of the mining west and lots of it to present to them the latest in mine and mill practice in langua language ge that can be understood by the most lowly and to keep well abreast with mining subjects that will be of some interest at least to every reader and to this policy we believe is largely due the popularity of this cation in every section of the west in every mining camp and in every canyon where mining and milling operations are being carried on As we compare our last issue with the closing number of volume 1 we feel that we have reason to be proud of the progress we have made during this long stretch of years and credit for this advancement we cannot but realize is largely due to the loyal support accorded us by our readers and advertising patrons and we confidently believe that this same splendid support will be extended us for another year and for many years to come 0 |
