Show CLASS legislation A vigorous protest is being made against the passage of the general revenue bill iest introduced of the t in congress because clause it contains which if enacted WO into law would impose a tax upon copper pro dubers of 1 per cent on a production of from to 2 per cent on oil 1000 to and 3 per cent on wore a ore than by many this is held to be class legisla tion and no doubt exists but that the pas P sage of the bill and its enforcement would aou have a most injurious effect upon the win alln ing industry of the whole country in general and upon tile the west in particular I 1 it would appear that the east with a persistency that would be admirable were it not for tile the fact that its attitude is not tenable has ever been ready to make a fight upon tile the wining mining industry deriding it upon nearly every occasion and opportunity and yet seeking its assistance whenever the country is in ill need of financial aid As a matter of fact mining is good enough in the hour of emergency but not good enough to receive just recognition and rightful protection from the pirates who throng the white house and our legislative halls it is to be hoped that such pressure will be brought to bear upon our representatives in congress that this obnoxious clause in the general revenue toil bill will be eliminated before it finds a place upon the calendar for final passage |
