Show THE WONDER OF THE AGE it is still only a few years ago ago that the old camp of bingham so snugly en ased in the foothills of the oquirrh range some eighteen or twenty miles southwest ly from isalt lake city was a practically deserted district with only a few of its mines producing and these were not making hardly any real money for their owners it is doubtful if at the time we refer to that tha t there were two hundred people in the whole bingham section and appearances indicated that ere long it would be almost entirely deserted to the old timer who has been absent from bingham for ten or fifteen years however it would seem that a miracle had taken place in the camp during his absence for the transformation is so complete so re remarkable so startling as to so mystify the absentee that he might well imagine that he was under the influence of alladin and his wonderful lamp for hardly anything remains to remind him of ancient bingham and to his astonishment where at one time the silence of solitude practically reigned all is now activity and the bustle and commotion of gigantic mining operations so great that sleep is almost impossible while the production of ore is so large the earnings so and the dividend budget so swollen that it could well be said that the impossible has been attained this complete resurrection of bingham is almost entirely due to the effort and endeavor of one company to the ability and courage of one man whose success has so stimulated others that the emulation of his example lim has resulted in giving to the world other mines which are keen competitors to the leading producer of the camp the utah copper company has not only revitalized bingham but it has set an example in mining and milling that has set the whole mining world to talking and thinking its successes have been so great and so marvelous that they almost surpass human belief the utah copper with its great disseminated porphyry mines with its two wonderful milling plants and with its privately owned railroad connecting its mines with its mills is the wonder of the age dur ing the few brief years of its existence the company has paid over forty one and one half million dollars in dividends and is constantly increasing its remarkable distribution of velvet money today it is mining and milling tons of ore daily aggregating over tons monthly while the mine has been developed to such a stage that it can easily maintain a regular production for months to come of tons of ore every twenty four hours we used to say poor old bingham the term is not applicable now however for the old bingham has passed away and the new one is so radiant in its reincarnation that it can well be termed the wonder of the age |
