Show northwest section of contact nevada by H M SHIELDS the writer recently examined that part of the contact from which the camp takes its name beginning with the bonanza group at the extreme northwest part of the camp and extending eastward to the bluebird claim below which the contact disappears beneath the wash of the little salmon river valley this section is at present the scene of greater activity than any other part of the camp on the bonanza group belonging to the mt alt helen development company and comprising seventeen claims of which S P snyder of minneapolis minnesota is president and general manager and robert mcshane resident manager a shipment is now being taken out which will be consigned to the salt lake valley smelters shelters sm elters this is a new discovery the vein which is a fissure in granite is from four to six feet wide twenty inches to two feet of which averages 21 per cent copper the main workings however are on the contact on the bonanza no 1 claim A deep gulch crosses the vein here making it feasible to tunnel both east and west on the ledge the bore to the west has been extended feet where a crosscut cross cut shows the vein to be over forty feet wide all mineralized the ore is a sulphide but average values have not been determined an eighty foot was sunk from the breast along the foot wall and a crosscut at that depth twelve feet in length showed average assay returns of 4 per cent copper owing to water and bad air this crosscut never reached the hanging wall so the full width of the ore ta there e is unknown the vertical depth fro drori the surface is about feet to the east from the gulch a tunnel was run feet of which was a crosscut the balance being on the contact A crosscut from the bottom of a fifty five foot shows ten feet of ore carrying 21 12 per cent copper at a depth of perhaps feet from the surface there are two parallel veins on the property the upper one is s a contact between lime and quartzite the other a contact between lime and grano diorite the lime belt is about feet wide on the bonanza N no to 2 claim lying at the east end of the group both contacts have been opened by crosscut tunnels the workings on the upper one show thirty seven feet of ore averaging 31 per cent copper and on the lower contact nineteen feet of ore of a probable value of 2 per cent is shown nevada copper workings to the east of the bonanza property lies the western group of claims of the nevada copper al M P company comprising I 1 linear fe feet et along the contact and also a large domain in the fissured zone of the grano diorite area two veins are opened on this ground along the line of contact also the lower one between and lime is opened in numerous places and is from twenty to forty feet wide values running from 2 to 5 per cent in copper A shipment from the magnolia claim made recently ran 1015 per cent copper and 2 12 ounces silver to the ton on the upper vein on the mammoth claim a crosscut tunnel has been run feet feet of which shows mineral in sulphide form and fifty five feet is said to average 5 per cent copper and the balance from 7 to 7 per cent when the writer visited this property the manager henry smith was drifting on a rich streak of and and the breast showed seven feet of shipping ore at five different places in running this drift average samples were taken and sent to salt lake for assay the lowest going 81 per cent and the highest per cent copper this ore should be ideal for milling by flotation process the property is equipped with a gas engine and compressor the company at present employs eight men and will increase the force as more are needed to the east of this group is the queen of the hills belonging to john lusetta of wells this ground has a fine surface showing next comes the empire and brooklyn groups owned by kemper and associates of butte montana about twelve years ago a shaft was sunk on the brooklyn to a depth of feet where the contact was crosscut work was stopped and the shaft allowed to fill with water and nothing ba h since been done with the property it n said that eighteen feet of a good grade grad V milling ore was opened in the crosscut shipments from seattle contact next to the east lies the delano grow grou 1 owned by the seattle contact mining accoo fn pany which has shown great activity late ti and from which thirty five carloads of or 01 I 1 have been shipped since february tt th P cars have averaged over forty five ve tons bac average values 12 per cent copper ounces silver and from 30 cents to 2 gol 01 per ton the ore comes from a fissure i the grano diorite the high grade astrea from which shipments have been en made ad e h ha run from two to ten feet thick the creates depth attained on this vein is feet two compartment vertical working shaf four by eight feet in the clear is being su sun to cut the ore at greater depth in th meantime an ingersoll rand hoist is to I 1 installed in the tunnel at the head of th seventy five foot which will be use to hoist the ore and for further sinking 1 25 horsepower gas engine and ten by byte ted compressor are now being installed to fui fu nish air for the drills as is also a hoist fo the vertical shaft there is a contact vein of great promis on this property with droppings crop pings for feet and opened by cuts and t tun nels for about feet some good ore h hai 1 been shipped from this vein the compan I 1 owns seven patented claims T A marshal marsha t is president and L B walters is secretary secreta t both of seattle washington J V ma
