Show officially THE SALT LAKE ROUTE the san pedro los angeles salt lake railroad which has been known for years as the salt lake route iby by the passenger department has been officially designated by that name by the management this is at the suggestion of T C peck general passenger agent the old name is to be dropped entirely and salt lake route is to appear at the head of all company stationery ti onery by many persons particularly in the east but also to a certain extent throughout the west and even in salt lake city the road has been known as the san pedro traffic officials argue that aside from the danger of confusing the initials of this name with another great western railroad the name is a misnomer to an extent as san pedro is one of the smaller towns on the line and therefore little more entitled to the honor than las vegas or tooele thoele would be it is pointed out that san pedro is no doubt a result of the american desire for brevity and that if the order of the original name had been reversed the line would have become known automatically as the salt lake it is the idea of the manag management ement that this city which is one of the two great centers of population reached by the railroad as well as its eastern terminus is entitled to the recognition that goes with the new official name and to the publicity which naturally will follow and other considerations aside salt lake route is regarded as more distinctive and as of grea greater ter advertising value to the company |
