Show THE REVIVAL by clias chas F willis the west of wickenburg fifteen afif teen miles to s one of the oldest mining locations in the state of arizona in 1863 george wickenburg for whom the town was named located 1 ed the property called the vulture mr Ei Wickenburg and his associates mined from 1863 to ISSO 1880 on the rich oxidized ores of the hauling to the hassayampa Hassa yampa river i surface bor for treatment those were days when the history of the state was being made A thriving and prosperous camp from the start a true frontier spirit troublesome indians and bandits certainly kept the little band from being lonesome while they daily ex traded the gold from the vulture ore no money in existence in those parts the men were paid with weighed chunks of the bullion aud and purchases were made in the same medium of exchange in 1881 an eighty stamp mill was erected all of the machinery being brought by wagon from the colorado river and plans were made fol foi largely increased production but this did not last long the deposit pinched and a fault was encountered entirely cutting off the ore body more alore or less desultory work was then done trying to find the continuation of the ore body but with no success for over twenty years the producer ol 01 long ago lay idle until a boston corporation with ith a peculiarly good nose for tracing faults came along and purchased the prop erty within two years this corporation known as the vulture mines company had located the ore bodies bigger and better than ever a new mill was constructed and since 1910 about a month in bullion ahas has been shipped from the mine and there are many successful years to come the property is a small one employing only about men but it is well equipped and has an ideal concentrating and chanid aig ore it is like the ghost of an old mine arising after a sleep of twenty years the e vulture Is one of the most valuable I 1 of f the gold properties within the state and as s a record of success behind it that is selm 1 doni equalled equal led it is under the management bof angus R mackey |
