Show IDAHO placer mining along the snake river north of huntington promises to be active this season several operators are planning novel ways of getting the gold and from some successes in the past believe they will be able to secure good returns at the annual meeting of the independent mining company in mullan the following directors were elected J H august matt chas mckinnis jos N thennes D F bclark henry billberg and jas A bean the directors meeting was held the following evening and the following officers elected for the ensuing year I 1 J H president jos N thennes vice president otto olsen oisen secretary treasurer the offices of the company were removed from mullan to wallace some of the lessees lessels operating in the upper workings of the bunker hill sullivan mine at kellogg are seriously considering the advisability of erecting a concentrator cen near the mouth of the old reid tunnel several have developed a large amount of milling ore and the owners figure that with a mill at hand it could be treated at a fair margin of profit this would enable them to handle their shipping ore more advantageously and cut down considerably on transportation charges 0 the lower tunnel on the yankee boy property on big creek near wardner operated by D W price and associates is nearing the 1200 station and has about feet yet to run to catch the ore veins of atie 6 upper levels it is stated that indications are right for the opening of an ore body on this level and with the values in silver found in the upper workings to judge from an ore shoot at this point is expected to prove profitable with transportation por tation facilities so close at hand the property could soon be in the profit sharing class when shipments are inaugurated ore shipments have begun from the may day group of copper claims on the upper waters of the north fork river near wardner big boats are used in bringing the ore down the river a distance of awen ty two miles to the railroad the mine is located two miles back from the river and has good wagon road connections the boats can handle about two tons on the down trip and are hauled back by horses supplies for the camp going back up in the boats at present only one ton is being brought down the river at a trip owing to the low stage of the water on the riffles fiffles rif fles this is a novel way to handle ores in the coeur dalene district but with copper bearing ores carrying values up to per ton it can be made profitable in addition to the property now shipping several others have ore shoots exposed that are capable of yielding a profit should the owners decide to venture the haul to the railroad A strike of much importance was recently made on the property of the two mile mining company situated on the east fork of two mile creek near osburn the two mile group has been located many years and has been quite extensively developed ve loped but no showing to compare with that just disclosed had ever been made the tunnel in in which the ore was encountered had been started on what appeared to be the vein and which was little more than a stringer of quartz and talc with more or less quartzite almost the color of lead and evidently carrying considerable lead in fact an occasional sparkle of galena could be seen but the stringer was never more than an inch in thickness and generally less at a distance of feet another stringer came in and the two combined were about two inches in thickness but all evidence of a vein except a mere seam disappeared in about ten feet at the point where the two stringers joined a shaft was started and at a depth of four feet the vein widened to about two feet feel of what appears to be milling ore of fair grade it is a splendid showing and has every appearance of being the top of a good ore shoot ben harvey who is the controlling owner of the two mile company states that work is suspended temporarily pora rily on the property but arrangements will soon be completed to continue sinking on the vein and a fine body of ore is confidently expect expected ed |
