Show PLANS FOR DALY WEST MILL the park record park city utah has printed the following description of the proposed new mill of the daly west mining co which is to replace the one destroyed by fire last winter at the new mill site was found mill superintendent P F W sherman directing the work of reconstruction with john C thompson in charge of the huge grading process and john in charge of construction st it is certainly a busy scene and the large force of men are ke kept p t on the move and are fast pushing work to completion ion the new mill will be on the site of old no 2 mill down the gulch a piece from the destroyed structure the new building will be practically feet square with a capacity of twenty five tons per hour and because of its modern equipment and improved process the entire mill will be operated with ten men including the assayer where in the old mill it required thirty five men to do the same work in preparing for the erection of the new mill it was necessary to remove yards of earth the grading was done by shoveling the dirt direct into launders through which a sufficient stream of water carried the dirt to the canyon below this process of excavation not only saved time and labor but made easy the acquiring of sufficient rock for the mill foundations from mr sherman the record man learned the following regarding the modus operand of the new mill when it commences operation the ore from the mine will be received in the mill in two immense ore bins feet square and 35 feet deep and fed to stevens adamson pan feeders and delivered to grizzlies grizzlier grizz lies the undersize passing direct to a screen the oversize going by gravity to a blake crusher which crushes to undersize of two inches and thence to screen the undersize of the goes by gravity to conveyor belt and thence to ore bin in mill proper and the oversize is delivered to conveyor belt ten feet long center to center that in turn delivers it to a symons fine disc crusher size forty eight inches and weighing twenty tons the head pulley of small conveyor is magnetic and picks out any iron or steel before delivering to crusher feed from crusher goes to conveyor belt delivering to mill ore bin near the head of conveyor belt is a set of blake dennison scales which weighs and registers weights or ores while in transit on the belt this conveyor belt is feet long center to center one man will operate crushing department the bins at head of mill will be each loo tons capacity the conveyor will deliver ore to the above bins through a where two sizes are made the undersize of 6 mesh and the oversize of 6 mesh the oversize is delivered by a plunger feeder to a franz jig this jig makes a lead concentrate cen and a middling the middling is delivered automatically by a drag conveyor to an ore bin where a plunger feeder delivers it to rolls for re crushing the undersize product of at head of mill is delivered by a plunger feeder to an akins classifier where the fines and slimes in the ore are taken out the de slimed product is delivered automatically to a second franz jig that makes a lead concentrate a lead zinc middling and a tailing which in turn delivers same to the sizing and classifying system which consists of a series of three impact screens three screens in each series and also a five richards janney classifier the impact screen and classifier make eight different classes of material the first three classes are treated each over two three compartment hartz jigs the other five classes are first treated each over two wilfley tables on the jigs is made a lead concentrate a lead zinc middling a zinc concentrate and a tailing rejection the from each jig is treated over an table which in turn makes a lead concentrate an iron zinc middling a zinc concentrate a zinc silica mi middling adling and a tailing rejection each series of the wilfley tables makes a lead concentrate cen an iron zinc middling a zinc concentrate a zinc silica middling and a tailing rejection the from each series of two tables go by gravity to the floor below to a third wilfley table where the same number of products are made as on the tables on the floor above the from the lower series of tables are returned by a cup elevator to the sizing and classifying system the lead and zinc concentrates from all the tables and jigs go to separate shaking launders that in turn deliver same to separate cup elevators that deliver each class of concentrates cen to akins de the de watered concentrates drop into bins from which they will be loaded into cars for delivery to railroad the cars of concentrates are returned by electric hoist to collar of the mine shaft the overflow from the richards jan ney classifier which contains all the original slimes in the ore is delivered by grav ayt to a sherman classifying tank fourteen feet in diameter and twelve feet deep from which the coarse slimes are drawn on a series of two slime tables for treatment the from t these hese two tables are treated over a third slimer on the floor below the overflow from the tank is delivered and equally distributed to thirty two settling tanks where the slimes are thoroughly settled and thickened and then delivered by gravity to a flotation machine this machine gives this thickened slime product fourteen separate treatments from each treatment a froth concentrate is made the overflow water from the tanks will be so clarified that it will again be used in the mill in place of fresh water all tailing rejections from jigs and tables pass over a hartz jig as a last safety before being finally rejected on this jig is made a middling and a tailing rejection the middling is returned to the sizing and classifying system and thence to jigs and tables for in the mill proper there will not be a car track not a shovel used or a tank of any description all products will drop direct from machines to shaking launders into tunnels beneath the floor and automatically mati cally carried to their respective destinations ti this will enable the mill to be kept clean and neat A foot tunnel from end of mill underneath ore bins leads to the mine and all transportation will be done electrically below the mill will be located a heating plant for both mine and mill the difference in cost of operation under the new system will be an item of considerable s sid id importance records show that the last year in the old mill the cost for labor alone was sixty five cents per ton in the new mill under the new system the cost per ton will be less than twenty cents mr sherman says the new mill will be completed and in operation by the middle of september and there is every reason to believe that such will be the case judging from the rapid progress being made at this time at the new hoisting works the new buildings are going up rapidly under the supervision of carpenter eric nelson the skeleton of the engine house is up and all the cement foundations for the heavy machinery is complete these were placed under direction of mr neilson and is as pretty a piece of cement work as will be found in the camp the building which will cover the hoist is delayed because of recent changes decided and the dimensions of the big steel gallows frame have not yet been received other buildings are going goin 9 up and by the time the machinery arrives everything will be in readiness to install it and the middle of september or the first of october at the latest will see both the mine and mill in full operation |
