Show ALASKA GOLD ANNUAL the alaska gold mines company operating near juneau alaska in which there is much local interest has issued its second annual report president hayden ha says at the time of the acquisition of this property by the present company it was estimated that operations would begin in the first section of the new ton mill on january 1 1915 progress up to date in developing the mine the salmon creek power project and the construction of the concentrating mill confirms all these original estimates the completion of the sheep creek tunnel and its connection with the crosscut at the bottom of the sheep creek shaft occurred on april I 1 of this year completing a most satisfactory piece of engineering both in the accuracy of the work and the speed with which it was accomplished it is not the intention of the management to make large expenditures at the present time in aurthur developing the veins already disclosed as the extent of ores now demonstrated is deemed amply sufficient upon which to formulate operating plans for the present it is proposed only to drive crosscuts cross cuts from the sheep creek tunnel into the vein at a point 2000 feet east of the main shaft with which the tunnel has just been connected and at another point approximately feet east of the main shaft later on a crosscut further out at the sheep creek end of the property may be driven to see what ore exists under the old high grade workings but this will only be done when other and more important work has been completed such development would serve simply to indicate additional dit ional ore that could not be available for mining to any advantage f for or over a quarter of a century vice president jackling the total length driven on sheep creek tunnel up to january 1 was about feet leaving a little less than 2000 feet to be driven april 1 1914 the tunnel had been connected with the shaft and where a portion of the ore deposit was crosscut to make 1 this connection excellent values were found accompanying a width width of vein substantially greater than the average for levels above thus demonstrating the strong and persistent character of the deposit both as to size and values to a depth on the dip of the vein at this point about feet greater than previously developed during the year the sinking of the no I 1 shaft was completed to the sheep creek or no 13 level and the enlarging of it was finished to the surface the total depth of this shaft is 1544 feet developments on the vein in preparation for mining were continued on most of the proposed levels above the alexander or no 10 level the no 10 level has been extended a total length along the vein of nearly feet throughout this distance the ore deposit has been developed by frequent crosscuts cross cuts and found to be substantially uniform in size and value these characteristics have also been proven by numerous crosscuts cross cuts on other levels the height of vein measured on its dip above the sheep creek tunnel and for the length of zone developed on the no 10 level is nearly 2000 feet the thickness of the main vein that has been used for previous estimates of tonnage and which may still be used conservatively is seventy feet A solid block of ore having the given dimensions would contain considerably more than tons all of our underground work including a large number of diamond drill holes through the vein taken together with extensive samplings both underground and on the surface indicates a uniformly increased thickness of commercially valuable ore bodies as compared with that used in previous estimates and prevailing throughout much greater lengths and depths on oil the ore deposit than those stated s above furthermore an entirely new body of ore has been developed to the north of the main Perser verance vein on the no 5 level which is being opened up for mining milling at the time of writing this report t this ills development has extended for a length of several hundred feet showing an ore deposit well over feet in thickness substantial consideration roust must also be given to no 2 vein developed by the alexander tunnel located about 2000 feet north of the principal vein series the vein has been prospected for a length of over feet its thickness is over feet and a mill run sample of several hundred tons taken from across this full width showed a gross value of about per ton on the whole there is every assurance that the tonnage of ore of commercial grade ultimately available from the property will be vastly in excess of any definite estimates heretofore or now made moreover the development work of the last year has indicated that the values set down in original estimates are conservative for considerable distances along the vein developed by the easterly end of the alexander or no 10 level values are well in excess of 2 per ton the same thing is true with respect to the new development on the no 5 level where in places the values average approximately 3 per ton for a thickness of well over 10 0 feet and on the crosscut connecting the sheep creek tunnel with the main shaft the values near the zone of the main perseverance level are unusually high there is every evidence that all of the ore bodies continue both east and west as the extensions of all workings above the sheep creek tunnel have disclosed normal characteristics both as to size and value and from the excellent showing of the limited development of the vein on the sheep creek level there is added ground for the expectation that the veins will extend to much greater depths development work done during the year including that of the sheep creek tunnel the main shaft and other work such as drifts crosscuts cross cuts etc but not including diamond drill work was feet during the year the old sheep creek mill located near the new mill site was reconstructed and put in use for experimental purposes in order to complete metallurgical investigations the results have been entirely satisfactory in that they have confirmed designs methods and procedure readily and economically applicable to and productive of high recoveries at low costs in fact as to both recoveries and costs the results which have been obtained and which point out improved methods to be employed in the new plant are more favorable than those upon which operating estimates made previous to this time have been based there have been no adverse disclosures or disappointments in any way or of any kind in connection with opening g up the mine in preparation for the production of tonnage for the new mill and it will accordingly be ready to produce ore earlier and more rapidly than the mill will be able to receive it the development and equipment of the property has up to this time fulfilled expectations and forecasts in all respects and has exceeded them in many ways and the outlook for the future is as promising as the development and achievements of the past have been gratifying |
