Show the mi mines 0 nes of the tintic gintic district BY WILL C HIGGINS everything considered the mines of tintic gintic district utah made a most creditable showing in 1914 notwithstanding the serious eferts of the war in E europe drope which caused a slowing down in operation and production during the last five months of the year in 1913 the mines of tintic gintic district paid in dividends as against in in 1914 and but for the curtailment in production caused very largely by the decline in metal quotations and in many instances the unfavorable market demands there is every reason to believe that the dividend payments for 1914 would have eclipsed all previous records A great many improvements were noted i tintic gintic district during the year and a largo large amount of development work was ac complis hed much of which was of a most important nature such as the splendid showing made in the may day and the lower mammoth the improvement disclosed in the itlie workings of the famous old mammoth and the discovery of a new gold bearing zone at the surface on the centennial eureka and the very favorable disclose ure in the yankee consolidated during the year also two new milling plants went into commission in the district the knight christensen leaching plant near silver city and the new concentrating mill of the utah minerals concentrating company at a t ell eureka J reka dividend disbursements the companies participating in dividend disbursements were as follows centennial eureka chief consolidated eagle blue bell grand central gemini iron blossom INI may ay day I 1 grand total iron blossom and dragon the iron blossom was the second largest producer during the year and the first in point of dividend payments in the matter of production the company had carloads to its credit and passed around in velvet money maintaining its 1913 record in this respect while at the close of the year it had a goodly reserve in cash in its treasury the mine is in excellent physical condition and the company looks forward wardlo to very successful and profitable operations during next twelve months the dragon consolidated marketed ninety carloads of ore during the year 1914 this production not including the tonnage consigned to the knight christensen christens en mill it is the intention to treat a large amount of both iron blossom and dragon ores at this plant and its operation will be watched with interest by mill and mining men throughout the mining districts of the west the centennial eureka the great centennial eureka for years the richest producer in this intermountain region while working under extreme difficulties during the year continued to maintain the leadership in point of production sending 1162 carloads of ore to the united states smelter in the matter of dividend payments payment sit it was second in the list during the early months of the year a serious cave in occurred in the centennial eureka that resulted in loss of life and entailed a great expense that could not be anticipated while the accident and disaster necessarily curtailed ore production and shipment during the year a new discovery of gold bearing ore was made on the surface in virgin territory which is looked upon aa as being of the utmost importance and which it is confidently hoped and believed will greatly prolong the life of this great breadwinner the company has a bond and option of the property of the king william company adjoining the centennial eureka and it is stated that the exploitation of this ground through the underground workings working s of the centennial eureka will soon be resumed the chief consolidated the chief consolidated despite unfavorable market conditions during the past five or six months lias been able to td make a most creditable showing during the year the company marketed carloads of ore and paid in dividends in ground leased to the may day a most important discovery of silver lead ore was made and this in the future may have a most im in bearing upon the development and value of the company s property during the year the company enlarged a portion of its working shaft and placed the entire shaft in splendid condition it is probable that a large amount of chief consolidated ore of a certain character will bei be treated during the coming year in the new mill of the utah minerals concentrating company the property of the company is most ably managed walter fitch is president and general manager cecil fitch is superintendent and walter fitch jr is assistant superintendent the mammoth mining company the mammoth mine at mammoth one of the oldest of the continuous producers of tintic gintic district while not in the dividend paying list in 1914 can boast of a record of disbursed to stockholders the mammoth was one of the first important discoveries to be made in the district it has been a sensational producer for many years and is still a long ways from the has been class it was the fourth largest producer in the district in 1914 and during the past two or three months some very interesting and important ore disclosures have been made in its underground workings the property is well equipped for operation and production the mine has been closed down since the first of the year due it is stated to the expiration of ore contracts and delay consequent upon their renewal samuel mcintyre is president general manager and treasurer of the company and samuel mcintyre jr is vice president and superintendent it is anticipated with the expected improvement in the metal market that the mammoth will make an enviable record during the coming year the grand central the grand central made an exceptionably good showing during the year 1914 during which it shipped carloads of ore and paid in dividends during the year also some very important ore disclosures were made in virgin ground in the com banys property and the output during the coming year will doubtless be materially increased while the grand central has paid over on in dividends the mine is practically still in its infancy and the company should make a great record in ore are production and profits for a great many years to come for the treatment of enormous volumes of low grade ore a mill is in contemplation the property is well equipped for successful operation land the mine has its own aerial tramway which connects with the railroad near robinson colonel C E loose of provo is general manager for the company the gold chain mine of which colonel loose is also general mana manager gerand and which is largely controlled by mr loose and associates aap S was among the regular shippers during the past year the gold chain during the period mentioned consigned car loads of ore to the smelters shelters sm elters the property is reported to be in excellent physical condition in point of systematic although a youngster development and operation it a al in dividend of ready has a record payments and with favorable conditions ex asting during the coming year should return to the fold of regular dividend payers the gemini mine the history of the gemini dates back to the day when there were but three or four producing mines in the eureka end of tin tic district the gemini has always been a great mine and lias has been most ably and conservatively managed it has been developed to great depths and its ore bodies have been proven as to permanency and continuity in 1914 the gemini paid in dividends and to date has in dividends to its credit during the year the company shipped carloads of ore for some time past the mine has been worked very profitably by leasere leasers lea sers seTS the company furnishing power and hoisting facilities the decline in metal quotations caused a suspension of operations for the last two months mont lis of the year but it at isi is stated that production will soon bei be resumed edward W packard is president of the company jackson C mcchrystal is vice president and general manager john H mcchrystal is superintendent of mines and james E berkley is secretary the victoria the year 1914 was a prosperous one for the victoria and with mine conditions SD favorable and with every reason to believe that metal quotations will record marked advances during the coming year the company should experience a season of great prosperity in the near future the victoria marketed carloads of ore during the year during the same period it made many improvements including the bringing in of a spur line jane of the railroad to its ore bins while underground connection was made with some very important ore bodies the victoria has a dividend record of it is still ayoung mine and has a great future before it the lower mammoth the lower mammoth mining company confined its prospecting during 1914 to the territory overlying and adjacent to the immense low grade zinc deposit between the 1500 and 1800 foot levels that has been partially developed in the past two years the management estimates this tonnage of partially developed ore at tons assaying about 13 per cent zinc this in the form of zinc carbonate and zinc silicate and though some progress has been made in a metallurgical process whereby the reduction of same may be made commercially successful the com company considers it more of a future asset than a source or of revenue for the present As stated above the prospecting being done is in the bel belief lief that there are large lead ore bodies in the anex elored territory above this zinc deposit which would explain the source of the zinc during december 1914 the company started drifting south on the and 1000 foot levels to reach the territory directly over the zinc deposit and perhaps to continue the drifts south to the granite contact upon which the main ore body on the 1700 foot level was found the results recently were very encouraging having opened up ore of a shipping grade on both the and 1000 levels the management feels confident that 1915 will be a prosperous year for the lower mammoth company the company shipped during 1914 tons of zinc ore to eastern smelters shelters sm elters this tonnage of zinc of shipping grade is found in lenses throughout the oie mass of low grade zinc mentioned above the company also shipped 1300 tons of lead and copper ores to local smelters shelters sm elters most of thess these shipments were made by leasers leaders lea sers the company at present is operating the 70 and 1000 foot levels and has twenty five men leasing different blocks of ground in the neighborhood of old mined years ago the may day company the may day mining milling company has had a successful year in that it has paid a three cent per share dividend and has opened up an ore body above the hoist tunnel level which has proven to be a continuation of the ore body mined some years ago that had been faulted by a vertical displacement of about sixty feet to a higher level and was picked up by leasers leaders in the fore martof part of 1914 and which has now developed into a good sized ore body the dividend paid was taken from this ore shoot and with the money in the treasury and ore in the bins ready for shipment the company has another three cent dividend with probabilities for continuous dividends for some time to come should the recent strike in the yankee consolidated property prove to be the same ore shoot the may day company would have 1000 feet on the strike before it could enter the yankee ground the company discontinued shipments when the lead and silver market declined but will probably resume during the early part of this year some work has been done on the lower level the spelter market strengthening lately has stimulated activity in the zinc shipments to be heavier during this year than last the shipments for the year were approximately 1300 tons of zinc ore to eastern smelters shelters sm elters and tons of lead silver ore to the local smelters shelters sm elters the uncle sam consolidated the uncle sam consolidated mining company has been operated during 1914 chiefly by leasers leaders lea sers they having shipped seventy tons of zinc ore to the zinc smelters shelters sm elters in the gas belt and 1400 tons of lead silver ore to tile the local smelters shelters sm elters should the recent strike in tile the yankee consolidated pro property peTtY prove to be a continuation of the may day cay ore body the uncle sam can reasonably expect to get it in its ground as it lays contiguous and in line of tile the strike of the may day ore zone and the uncle sam sain will undoubtedly begin v vigorous development to prove the same vein in its territory the eagle blue bell the eagle blue bell property comprises seventy three acres of mineral ground in the district it adjoins the cen tennial eureka on the west the grand central on the south the victoria on the east and the chief consolidated on the south and east the development work is confined principally to tile the mammoth ammoth Af ore zone which extends north from the mammoth ammoth 11 mine through the grand central and victoria properties into the eagle blue bell the main working shaft has just recently attained a depth of 1700 feet and a crosscut is being extended to intersect the probable downward extension of the ore bodies found on the 1500 foot level it has been the policy of the management to develop the downward extension of ore bodies by sinking a on the ore deposit before sinking the main shaft and then driving a crosscut the experience gained here and at other mines warrants the carrying out of such a cautious policy which does not assume the continuity of the far below the bottom level the property has shipped uninterruptedly for the entire year regardless of the low metal prices the average monthly yield being 1500 tons of lead silver ore and 1000 tons of gold ore there has been distributed in dividends during the year bringing the total dividend record up to also additional surface equipment in the form of a machine shop and a high wooden trestle to facilitate the handling of waste was installed the capitalization of the company is shares par value 1 each of which shares have been issued issue dand and are outstanding the officers are james P graves president boston henry N sweet vice president and chairman board of directors boston george E davis secretary boston sydney S millett treasurer boston and imer pett assistant treasurer and general manager salt lake city the directors director of the company are james P graves henry sweet fred H williams and george E davis of boston and imer pett fred R sands and duncan macvichie of salt lake city the district in general the yankee consolidated worked continuously during the year and late disclosures have been very gratifying to the management at the present time two shifts are employed in extending a drift in the direction of the new discovery made in the may alay day adjoining which caused such a flutter in mining circles with every reason that its extension will be found in yankee ground the yankee consolidated in the past has paid in dividends it owns a great piece of ground and if discoveries are made as anticipated it will soon get back into the dividend paying list during the year the company shipped thirteen carloads of ore the colorado and deck beck tunnel were worked by leasers leaders during the year during which period they shipped eighty two carloads of ore each colorado has paid 2 in dividends and the beck tunnel neither were in the dividend class in 1914 but it is stated that both companies now have a good treasury reserve the bullion beck and the eureka hill were worked by leasers leaders during the year the former shipped sixty carloads of ore and the latter eighteen the bullion beck has a dividend record of the standard made its advent into the shipping class during the year and recent discoveries in the mine workings at depth indicate that this property will make a great record during the year 1915 the Opo hongo produced twenty eight cars of |
