Show MAKE THE PROSPECT PAY from time to time the mining review has urged upon the prospector the necessity of making his claims pay the necessity of shipping what ore is being taken out in doing development if the ore is of shipping grade or of putting in small re works if of milling grade it is very often the case that small shipments made as often as possible will fully pay expenses of operation and help in the development of a prospect until it attains the position of a regular producing and paying mine but if the prospect is neglected awaiting the time when its owner is able to raise capital for extensive operation and equipment it may be many years if ever before it receives the attention it really deserves we have often advocated the installation tion of a small milling pant p ant in the case 1 of a prospect where a fo foot ot or tw two feet of 10 to 20 ore has been uncovered such a showing would not justify the erection of large reduction works and general conditions would be unfavorable to marketing I 1 the ore at a profit the overhead expense would be too great and the tonnage would be too small and yet with the many small and very excellent milling plants within the reach of the average claim owner a plant with a capacity of from five to fifteen or twenty tons daily could be put in and operated so cheaply that the prospect I 1 owner could run through a few tons daily with a recovery that would enable him to maintain steady development and at the ithe same time accumulate a little surplus that could be utilized later in increasing milling capacity and in addling adding to mine equipment in this issue of the mining review in the advertising section one of our patrons announces that he is in the market for a prospect such as we have described this I 1 gentleman ent leman states that it has hasteen been the dream ot of his life to take a good gold prospect put ut in a small milling plant treat the ore as he takes it out and gradually without eany ny outside help or assistance open up a f amine mine that will be a regular and heavy producer making the mine pay for its own envelopment as well as paying for all ad equipment this thing has been done many times nd from such small beginnings there are properties in the west today which are paying large and regular divi ends and there are hundreds of most meritorious erit orious prospects in our mountain ranges ages which are now idle and neglected merely because lecause their owners can see noth ng in them or tor for them unless they can E operated upon a large scale because heir air owners as a matter of fact are not milling filling to begin in a small way to build hem up to a profit making basis in other 5 the owner is too lazy to work or per le laps aps has an attack of that dread malady a the he hook worm and would rather spend a thousand dollars iri in warming the chairs of a hotel lobby in the endeavor to secure capital for development and equipment on a large scale than to put the money into a small milling plant and with his own individual effort with a man or two to assist him make his property self supporting and well on the road to a regular dividend payer |
