Show MINING IN UTAH at the present time the showing of the T utah itah mines is attracting favorable attention passing over the steady old producers which have gone on their way smooth ly earning dividends and quietly mining their reserves of ore those properties which form the basis of successful industry in this state and confining our attention to the more spectacular happell happenings ings of the last few weeks in camps it is well to call attention to what some of the districts have contributed lately which in many another state and in other times would justify a boom park city was one of the first to attract favorable attention this spring through rather spectacular discoveries first came the opening up of a large body of ore in the lower workings of the silver king coalition to be followed speedily by rich discoveries co in the silver king consolidated thompson quincy and american flag alta came in for favorable attention by virtue of new shoots of shipping ore then erratic tintic gintic with its eagle blue bell which has been a steady producer in a quiet way for some little time came to the front with the inducements to public favor which were described in our last issue then came the greatest surprise of all in the old emerald at tintic gintic this mine has had an especially interesting history its owners have held on now for some twenty years in the face of an ends end less recurrence of difficulties and against the advice of their friends it may be fa fairly ir 1 added installment after installment of money has been poured into this heretofore hole in the ground but this money has come from the pock ets of the long time owners who have never tried to unload any of the stock but secure in their faith have stuck to the determination to make a mine of it this has now been done and as soon as arrangements can be made to work the recently discovered it will no doubt become a steady producer these discoveries and wonderful showings have all been made in old mines in ancient districts were the same amount of ore to be exposed in as many new camps there would be more than the present ripple of excitement yet the show ing of this spring justifies a spirit of great optimism as to the future of mining in this state there are some who advance the ment that a new camp would have more before it perhaps and more vicissitudes also it too would stand as good a chance of playing out as these mines which are ROW increasing their reserves and in no longer time the fact we wish to emphasize is that however viewed the discoveries co made this spring are as important to the mining industry basically as I 1 the discoveries of new camps would in addition they have the be advantage e that ft the nature of their ore ores s is known r billing nilling costs and costs of extraction percenta ve p er centa tage of recovery and other important facts understood and the difficulties are may ta e more easily foreseen why not then give the old dIstri districts ets their due and cease the harping on the lh 6 need for new camps A recurrence of the th recent happenings would refute the idea ide that one can not have his c cake ake and eat it too |
