Show A HAULAGE RECORD eighteen pounds capacity steel railroad cars loaded in a single day is the record output recently made by one motorman at mine no 1 of the scalp level acal mining company whose offices are at windber pennsylvania this mine is one of the john lochrie operations and is situated in the famous windber coal field on this particular day they worked exactly nine hours and forty five minutes the only haulage equipment used was an eight ton bald baldwin win westinghouse ouse bar steel electric mine locomotive equipped with commutating pole motors this locomotive except for a few mine cars hauled from a dip from a point in the heading by a mule did all the work gathering the ecal cars and hauling them to the tipple when they stopped work in the evening the locomotive was inspected and found to be in first class condition in spite of the heavy work it performed the motors were nearly as cool as when they started in the morning the cost of operating this locomotive for the day was motorman and making in all twelve mine cars each loaded with two tons of coal were hauled on each trip the longest haul was made about 2500 teet tee t from the face of the first to tipple and about the same distance from face of main heading to tipple the grades in this mine at two points for a distance of feet are 1 per cent against the loads thirty six trips were hauled and it is estimated that at least two minutes were lost on each trip on account of the motorman waiting for empty cars outside notwithstanding this loss of time the operators feel certain this was the highest run of coal ever made in western pennsylvania in one day by one motorman and it is believed that it has never been equalled equal led elsewhere the men at this mine claim that there was no extra eff effort ort made this day to ma make ke a record it was only an ordinary days wo work rk and they believe that if they would make an extra effort every man on the jump for any one day this baldwin we west st in ghouse mine locomotive could gather and haul suf sufficient focient coal to at least load twenty four steel ears cars these gave such excellent satisfaction that subsequently bought two the same property additional bar steel locomotives the original three locomotives have been in constant service ever since they were installed and have never required any mechanical or electrical repair with th the e exception of tho the renewal of brake shoes the original armature brushes with which these motors were put into service are still in the motors and the com have run absolutely true and show no signs of any wear or burning although the service in which these locomotives have operated has been so severe colorado was the largest producer an estimated output of tons of ferber in 1913 against tons in 1912 j the atolia district california was t second largest producer and still makes larger production of scheelite than any ot ott district in the world nearly all the out outi p was produced by the atolia mining eo co pany but small quantities were also p i deuced from several mines at atolia and t stringer and randsburg brandsburg Rands burg districts on t north some was produced in t clark mountain region in southeastern C cf Z iwko ga uka VT 65 Z ya AM ra |
