Show 0 ALASKA GOLD MINES charles hayden president of the alaska gold mines company operating near juneau alaska has reported on the properties of the company and progress of the work which is of interest in the west tae statement shows the enormous scale of operations erat ions on which the company is conducted he says the mining claims owned by the alaska company consist principally of four groups known as the alaska perseverance ground hog silver bow basin and creek groups and these with other smaller groups and individual claims constitute a solid and continuous body id comprising om 1250 1200 acres having a maximum length of about feet and a maximum wroth w lath or of about feet and covering the gold creek lode system contact for a length of over two miles there has been definitely developed on the perseverance vein alone tons of ore having an average value of per ton recent developments an fn m the perseverance section have confirmed the existence of another vein generally parallel t to 6 and much larger than the perseverance vein A mill run of several hundred tons tona from this vein has demonstrated an average value of per ton it is estimated that with the new equipment the ore will yield a minimum net profit of 75 cents p pelton 1 ev while the tons referred to have been fully developed the workings have been fully developed and have been already extended so as to justify an estimate of the companas comp anys engineer D 0 jackling in excess of tons of like grade of the initial installation of a plant having tons daily capacity the life of the property on a basis of tons would be approximately twenty three years and on the basis of ore not fully developed but probable the life would be ninety two years the mines are at present operated days a year the property is being equipped for a daily capacity of tons of ore but by the time the mill now being constructed is completed the development of ore reserves will warrant equipment for a much larger capacity during the year 1912 over tons of ore were broken in the of the perseverance vein and tons were milled the total amount of ore mined milled and sampled from the perseverance vein since it was opened upon the present main level has been about tons of which tons have been milled the remainder having been left in the to support the walls of the vein according to the engineers report the maximum recovery for any year from 1907 to 1911 is per ton the minimum 4 recovery for a years operations was a ton the average for the five years being in excess of per ton the ore will be mined through two tunnels the alexander and sheep creek tunnels the former which is on the 1600 foot level has been extended to a length ot of 2500 the sheep creek tunnel on the 2300 foot level which will serve as a s the main outlet for f or the delivery of ore to the concentrator ern cen on the coast will when completed be feet in length and will be connected with the alexander tunnel in the perseverance section this tunnel has already been driven feet the working shaft from the alexander level to the surface has been enlarged and is being sunk feet to the level of the sheep creek tunnel this shaft will serve to deliver employees 16 and nd supplies all development and construction work planned has adaa advanced at a rate that gives give every assurance of the beginning of active octive mining and milling operations before january 1 1915 and barring delays which cannot now be fores foreseen een a portion of the new mill should be in operation prior to that date A ton concentrator is being constructed ted wholly of steel and con concrete creto on the beach of the gastineau channel abou t two miles distant from the portal of the sheep creek tunnel A narrow gauge railroad two miles in length connects the plant site and the sheep creek tunnel this railroad which is being constructed will be operated by electricity and the same equipment used for underground haulage in the sheep creek tunnel development of the salmon creek water ater power contemplates two stations of equal capacity whereby the total head will be used in two approximately equal stages or of about feet each the lower station has been completed and is now delivering power to all points of development and band con construction strud it is expected that the upper station can be completed during the present year one of these will have an all year round capacity of horsepower the other will have a capacity of 2000 horsepower during the summer months this latter de development will be of value in low water seasons as it will relieve the other otha r power plant and also increase the rate or of storing water in the reservoir in connection with these water stations in order to equalize the power for all months of the year a storage reger reservoir voir will be constructed and for this purpose it is proposed to build a concrete dam feet high which it is expected will be completed during this year it is expected that the entire plant will be completed and in operation by january 1 1915 |
