Show THE OUTLOOK several of our leading business men who are interested in mining railroading and stock raising have recently returned from the east and they report the outlook for business very good the question naturally arises as to the grounds for their confidence there are several reasons for this general opinion of good business conditions in the first place it is not likely that congress will pass any very damaging legislation it will soon adjourn after passing the bill for reciprocity with canada there are some who think that all kinds of business will suffer if this is passed if reciprocity between massachusetts and missouri is good or reciprocity between the eastern and western portion of this country and between the northern and southern sections is beneficial why will not reciprocity between canada and the united states be very advantageous vant ageous on the whole the reports from the various sections show that the crops for the season will be very bountiful the south and lie he central section will give a yield up to the average and many parts of the great western portion of the country will show a yield above the average several of the eastern factories which have been closed for some months are at work again the steel trade is increasing and the interest and dividend earnings for the month of june is estimated at from to the outlook for the steel and iron trade for the next six months is most encouraging for already the bookings are greatly in excess of the business for the first half ot the year the unfilled statement of the great steel corporation for the first of the month showed an increase of tons as compared with the first of the previous month locally there is much to encourage us in the mining outlook the settlements for ore and bullion in this city for the week ended july were for the corresponding week of last year they were and for the second week in july 1009 1909 they were these figures show a very steady and marked increase in the general mining industry to be sure the settlements cover portions of the output from adjoining states but a very considerable portion of the production ot this state is shipped to outside smelters shelters sm elters the increase may be accounted for by the increase in shipments from the big low grade mines of Bing bingham liam and the rich t gold old product from several of the mines of nevada the prospect is that before the end of the year we shall see considerable increase in the demand for properties and also some increase in the stock business |
