Show GLOBE BAILEY GROUP OF MINES SPECIAL correspondence san francisco cal july 10 the globe bailey group of quartz claims consisting of forty two locations are situated in the northern part of trinity county and seven ty five miles from redding the nearest railroad point these claims cover all of globe mountain and the elevation is about feet above sea level the country rock consists of schist and quartz porphyry and the ore is an iron stained sugar quartz the ore occurs in crevices having a width of from six to thirty six feet and each lease is connected by heavy stringers of ore which has proved to be an unfailing guide for new ore bod K ca 0 na ies the ore plates about 20 per ton and is practically all free milling the development work consists of two tunnels the upper being feet long and the lower feet in length on the globe group and one tunnel feet long on the bailey the tunnels on the globe are all in ore and are connected by raises thus giving a perfect air circulation easy access to all workings and blocking out the ore also the lower tunnel is about feet below the apex of the mountain at its face the droppings crop pings on the surface are pronounced noun ced and very strong and all carry some gold values the equipment consists of two ten stamp and one twenty stamp mills the ten stamp mill on the globe is feet below the mouth of the lower tunnel and a gravity tramway conveys the ore from the latter to the mill the power to operate this mill is furnished by an electric plant operated under a water pressure of feet the power plant is equipped with a 50 kw generator and a 3 kw driven by a 46 inch pelton water wheel this plant generates 65 horsepower the plant can be increased so as to generate 1500 horsepower as there is a flow of 2000 inches of water at the drnest season of the year the mills milis on the bailey are driven by direct water power the tunnel on the bailey group will tap the chute at a distance of 1100 feet and at a depth of 1050 feet from the apex of the hill and will reduce the expense of mining considerably as a haul of eight miles will be saved and work can be pursued sued throughout the year there are a number of buildings on the property and all are lighted by electric electr lc ty the ore milled up to date has been obtained from the development work and only six stamps have been dropping the tailings have not been saved the rock yields 20 per ton on the pla plates tes the production to late date amounts to with tons of ore blocked out ready to be extracted the production of has been taken out of the mine during the last two years there is plenty of wood and water on tile the claims there being three streams at hand Al miners illers are paid at the rate of per day this prop property efty should develop into one of the big mines of california G CHESTER BROWN E al |
