Show THE FRISCO MINES POWER CO FROM THE MINER KINGMAN ARIZONA last sunday the miner aliner editor visited the mines of the frisco mines and power company in the union pass section and was agreeably surprised to note the wonderful progress made by this company in the development of its mines during the past year drifts had been run into the big vein feet from which cross drifts had been run through the vein to a contact either with the hanging or footfalls foot walls the vein lies at a dip of about twenty degrees and the main adit goes in from the bottom of the vein at the greatest point pointon of elevation below this a drift has been run in and connects with the upper works and through this opening all the ore will be drawn the vein at all points cut shows a uniform thickness of better than thirty five feet from the ahe present openings it is estimated that bet ton machinery is soon to be put on this vein and a shaft sunk stink to considerable depth for the present the company has enough good grade ore to keep its mill pounding away for years to come location of mines the camp is situated on a sunny slope of the mountain about half way between union pass station and meyers well on the old mohave and prescott stage road it has a magnificent view of miles of the colorado river and the wonderful valleys that lie on each side needles can just be discerned in the haze of the distance to the west of the camp is the big mill that the company has just placed in commission complete and up to date plant this plant is one of the most complete and up to date in the territory it is equip S SM M 0 OWN 10 ax 4 ja A tt v A aj J 14 mine and mill of the frisco mines power co ter than tons of ore averaging better than 1250 per ton in gold can be drawn the company is getting all parts of the mine in shape for it being the intention to use the caving system leaving pillars of ore every twenty five feet to hold the roof afterward taking out the pillars and allowing the ground to close in there is only a small amount of covering over the whole mass of vein matter and it is expected that there will be little movement of the hanging wall there is a well defined hanging wall although it is somewhat in places the ore shows all around the butte in which the vein is situated and the course of the vein is traceable for a long distance on the surface below the main outcrop is another location that shows shows a different dip this being almost perpendicular cular the vein is large and well defined and shows values above 20 to the ped with a gates rock crusher of great capacity and one six foot hardinge conical ball mill operated in conjunction with a tube mill the ball mill is handling about sixty tons of ore as it comes from the rock crusher and 45 per cent of this ore is crushed to mesh the coarser product going to the tube mill where it is crushed to a mesh of two hundred from the ball and tube mills the pulp goes to the agitation tanks Pach where it is aerated to a considerable degree the mixing and stirring being continual for some time from these tanks the pulp goes on to the burt filters where it is treated to a further weak solution of cyanide and latterly clear water within one hour it is discharged at the rear of the press containing but twenty per cent moisture it will be understood that the standard cyanide solution is fed into the ball mill and is retained through out the process at a standard percentage that is found advantageous in the extraction of the gold from the ore the entire process from the moment it enters the rock crusher until it emerges from the filters is automatic the filters handle about ninety tons each per day and are probably the most complete of any filters made the auro cyanide solution is passed through the zinc boxes and re standardized and pumped back to the tanks whence it again goes through the mill on its errand of gold recovery the zinc shavings are run through a pressure mill where all the unused zinc is cleaned up and the product is then smelted smelter in the furnace the gold coming out clean and handsome bullion the mill is well built all the retaining walls floors and columns being of concrete and the buildings being heavy timbers covered with corrugated iron oil consuming engines possibly one of the greatest features of the mill is the economic oil consuming engines the engine used in the main part of the mill is an eighty horsepower and weiss patent it is about as noiseless in operation as a steam engine and runs about as steady it is reported by the management that the cost per horsepower estimated is about per month less than that of steam power oil costs but a fraction less than six cents per gallon at the mill in the cyanide division of the mill a forty horsepower engine is used this will also drive a dynamo that is soon to furnish power to the rock crusher at the mill and the power drills in the mine the ores from this mine are hard and tough and the mill has probably one of the hardest jobs ever given a milling plant to chew it up recently the ball mill had the size of the iron balls used in it increased from about a pound weight to about ten pounds weight with a corresponding good increase in the crushing capacity of the mill mine and mill management since the company went into active work on the mines in this county J R clair of new york has been general manager and under his careful supervision the company has done a large amount of work for the money expended E H barton one of the best mine managers in the country was in charge until recently and ills his work on the mine and mill is apparent howard W squires is now superintending super intending matters at the property and from the manner he is going at things he is sure of success the property is being thoroughly sampled out drillings being made through the vein wherever possible at a distance of five feet these drillings so far have shown the average to be about the same as that shown in the drifts and raises mr squires who has had some years of experience in the nii mines nes of the mother lode region of california and the goldfield section of nevada believes tile the property to be one of the greatest in the country and it would look that way to anyone who knows anything of the mining game only a year ago this mine was a prospect and today it is one of the great mines of the world with a small amount of further development the mine will double its present ore reserve which would incur tile the huttl putting ing in of a large milling plant and require a greater volume of water so far the mill and camp have an ample supply of excellent water the supply being brought from the big spring in the mountain above union pass station and carried over the divide by gravity every place in and about the camp is lighted by electricity which brings the camp right up to date editorial note the above article on the frisco mines power company was published in the miner of kingman arizona several months ago at the time the mining alining review desired to reproduce it and wrote to tile the miner for photographs with which to illustrate the same after some difficulty and delay the miner was able to forward us the photograph used in the accompanying compa nying halftone half tone concerning this enterprise ter prise the editors of the miner have written us as follows you will note that the vein lies above the mill where the dump shows the smallness of the dump is due to the fact that all work is done directly in ore no waste coming out and everything going direct to the mill the crushing takes place in the upper building and the lower one is used in recovery the burt filters cyanide rooms and furnaces being in the lower building the plant is now crushing about sixty tons daily the camp is to the east of the divide shown on the right the vein outcrops all around the hill and is from thirty five to fifty feet thick the average of the last weeks run was 20 |
