Show TALKS OF THE NATIONAL MINE an experienced mining man a friend of the mining review who has made quite an extensive examination and study of the great national mine at national nevada has bas the following to say regarding his impressions pres the general formation is rhyolite and andesite the vein is irregular with occasional splits the ore occurrence however is in bunches at irregular intervals and small bunches at that but when these bunches occur they are so rich that they make one sit up and take notice it is the only mine that has come under my notice and observation in which the term massive z could be applied in describing the occurrence of gold the gold is taken out in chunks and nodules and the immediate surrounding material is taken out and designated as second class but in any other country this second class would be called first class and mighty good ore at that the balance of the vein carries very slight values if any the management every foot of the ground the national is simply a high grade mine and it would be too unsafe even to leave the smallest of blocks untouched the ground cannot be prospected by the ordinary method of blocking out as one might easily miss a fortune by a foot here the entire vein must be broken down this is the greatest gamble in mining I 1 have ever seen or heard of there seems to have been a complete separation of the gold and silver values from the iron antimony arsenic and whatever other min mineral eraC occur in the vein and the gold and silver have been bel en precipitated into practically a pure state by itself As a matter of fact nature has done a mighty good job j ob of concentration cent ration or separation of the mineral a piece of good milling practice I 1 have concluded that no engineer living could form an accurate estimate of the value of the property it is simply a phenol phenomenal menal ore occurrence or freak this is the condition what the mine will disclose at depth is a great guess on the lower levels the iron occurs in greater bodies and throughout the upper levels the vein appears to me to have undergone a very strong 0 leaching action leaving a possibility for the occurrence or of a zone of precipitation re at or below the permanent water level taking all signs into consideration I 1 believe that this condition may possibly occur I 1 admit however that others have taken contrary views of course I 1 regard the matter from the freak condition existing here |
