Show GRUBSTAKE THE prospector some of the greatest mines in the west were found by the grubstaked grub rub staked prospector grubstaking Grub staking was much more common a quarter of a century ago 0 than has been the case of late years but no better plan exists for the acquiring of an interest in valuable property than by this old time method and nothing 0 stimulates mining 0 in any section to a greater extent than the fact that its mountain ranges and canyons are being overrun over run by a horde of prospectors it was the prospector who caused such a craze in nevada a few years ago A great many of them were prospecting on their own hook but quite a number were out on a grubstake and their discoveries enriched those who were wise enough and enterprising 0 to put up the grubstake A grea great t many rich discoveries were made in nevada by this army of prospectors but no more so than would have been made in utah had an equal number of prospectors been employed in the great mineral sections of this state in colorado there has been a reawakening in mining circles for years but few prospectors were to be seen in the hills and canyons of the centennial state and mining had declined to a very low ION ebb the denver chamber of commerce finally realized just how little attention was being paid to mining minin t and also how the fame of the state as a mining 0 center was waning and was able to point out the cause which was nothing Z more than the fact that but very little prospecting was being done don e to rectify this and also to instill more life into mining affairs the chamber cham iber organized a grubstake committee and now has a number of prospectors in the field already results are being obtained as is evidenced dc aced in the following special received by the mining review a few days ago which says additional samples received by the grubstake committee of the denver deliver chamber of commerce bear out the belief that a most important discovery has been made by 0 AT kee a prospector sent by the committee into the la plata mountains the first samples from kee were received about a month ago and showed an assay value of 60 a ton the new samples which were taken across the vein he has discovered are even better than the first an engineer representing the committee will be sent to make an examination and report on kees discovery and other prospectors have been directed to go into the same field which is about fifteen miles from durango this is a good stunt on the part of the denver chamber of commerce and one which might well be followed by the salt lake commercial club the club is up to its ears in matters pertaining to other material interests of the state but it pays but little attention to mining and yet the discovery of a few more great dividend payers would attract more attention to utah than would thousands of circulars sent broadcast over the land telling what may be done here in the way of dry farm ing or how our fertile land can be made to produce alfalfa and winter wheat mining is the backbone of this country and the way to maintain the supremacy of this industry is to keep prospectors out in the mountains if they are financially unable to go into the field they should be sent out on a grubstake if individuals divi duals cannot furnish it corporations tor for their own interests if nothing more should see that it is furnished grubstake the prospector |
