Show GOLD BASIN DISTRICT new gold camp in northern nevada attracting considerable attention written for the mining review news from the mining world is eagerly looked for by your many readers and knowing this I 1 want to give you facts and facts only it is a most foolish thing to misrepresent conditions as they exist in any mining section it injures the camp and d its the man who does it nothing is gained by such reporting consequently this report is true as I 1 see the country the gold basin mining district lies fourteen miles almost due west from jar bidie bidge in the northern part of elko co nevada A little prospecting has been done in a desultory way there for several years but little real work done two claims were located over a year ago by the blosser brothers and a little surface work done this spring mr H H hunter representing a denver company came into this sect on and bonded this property two claims for taking some of the rock over to jarbidge harbidge Jar bidge for assay when it became known that many samples ran over per ton a stampede started and inside of twenty four hours over men left jarbidge harbidge Jar bidge for the new section of course most of them returned at once but a few remained and began a system etem of thorough prospecting country extensively located As a result in a few weeks the whole country was located now comes the most natural question what is the country and what have they got the mineral zone is about four miles wide and seven miles long and runs in a northeasterly and southwesterly course the bruneau river cuts through the south end and paral ells the west side of this zone the country is mostly low rolling hills and the general contour reminds one strongly of the cripple creek colo district porphyry and quartzite dykes the formation is mostly lime with large dykes of porphyry and quartzite cutting the lime carrying veins of quartz to and above the surface in many places these veins of quartz are exposed for ten to feet in width and in some places stand ten or more feet above the surface and break off the cropping wherever you please it is nearly all mineralized and by panning shows free gold or by roasting in fire shows native silver I 1 never saw so much mineralized rock exposed on the sur surface Rice nor such strong mineralized ledges anywhere between cripple creek and british columbia south end of district at the south end of the district charles Cli arles E hayden and associates have a large group of claims covering a whole mountain they have done considerable prospecting pec ting and so far it looks as if the whole mountain was ore carrying gold silver and copper this group lies close to the river next to this group the blosser boys and matt graham have a property of seven claims called the chimes on this group the contact veins show very strong in one ten foot shaft there is five feet of good free milling ore in a white and jasper quartz A picked sample ran over to the ton they have a tunnel in about feet run to crosscut the vein this is now in a broken up mineralized vein matter the river cuts this group in two and there is ample power here for a mill at small cost joining this there are several good locations among which J W caldwell has a group of several claims right in the zone with a splendid tunnel s site te running from the river which would give great depth and undoubtedly cut many blind veins near to this on the west side of the river beall and associates have located a great porphyry dyke which I 1 should estimate to be feet in length by 1200 in width they have sampled this all over the surface and the average values show per ton the river runs within a few feet of the point of this dyke and if a treating plant should be installed here the ore could be literally quarried out and run into the mill here is a large and beautiful ranch owned and run by john scott a genial and accommodating westerner and who is also postmaster of rowland rowland townsite just across the river is the new townsite called rowland it lies on a plateau encircled by hills that break off the winds and will make an ideal winter camp hayden and howard the proprietors are pushing it to success at present a store assay office and saloon are moving in and while still a town of tents it will soon assume the substantial aspects of a permanent town the wagon road from mountain home idaho comes direct to this camp ane distance being ninety five miles moving easterly from here two miles away is what is now called the hunter property mr hunter is arranging for extensive developments on this property A contract has been let for a foot A boarding and bunk house are being put up and a campaign of action and permanent work inaugurated joining the hunter group on the north sullivan burke and faucett have eight claims with a fine showing of mineral on the many veins and cross veins that cut this property like the hunter ground I 1 the quartz pans free gold and shows native silver in lots of the rock on the east a group of five claims was recently sold by george pitcher tor for with no work deeper than ten feet on the south several groups have the same strong surface showings A R caldwell and mr yoder holding several claims J W caldwell and P bonner of mountain home have a group of ten claims on one of which is a fifty foot shaft in an oxidized quartz showing the same distinctive that prevails on the chimes group of blosser et al four miles away to the south this is a magnificent ent group the veins are very strong on the surface and assays essays from assessment holes show values of from 8 to in gold with some silver three claims joining this group were sold last week to tonopah people for still a little east one and one half miles other properties are opening up with encouraging cou raging prospects Rose heimer and grimpe are taking out some fine jasper quartz that pans freely and every days work changes for the better on the mother lode mccoy and kerr have five claims with droppings crop pings all mineralized and on which ground a piece of float was found running to the ton bonds and McKi meron and anderson and allsbury are doing their assessment work with encouraging results the mother lode vein one of the finest showings in this end of the district is that of flynn and white on one of their groups they have the mother lode vein cropping on the surface for feet fhe ledge on the surface is from twenty to feet in width and the rock shows great everywhere in one ten foot hole the as says run 41 in gold and silver you must realize anat the owners have not had time to do much development work yet as nearly all these claims have been located since the 1st ast of march here the veins dip and disappear under the malapi overflow and do not appear again until they reach bear paw mountains four miles further north here again the same appears and many locations have been made townsite of ivada ivada is the new townsite in the north end of the district six hundred and forty eight lots have been surveyed and are being leased As it is on a forest reserve the land cannot be sold the town lies in a beautiful basin surrounded by low hills and is supplied with water from numerous clear pure springs A general store alth witha a stock is being put in an assay office and several other conveniences are by this time established mrs M has just put in a lodging house moving from jarbidge harbidge Jar bidge she is a lady of refinement and has the honor of being the first lady resident of the camp caan new arrivals are coming in every day and the prospects for a large and perman ent camp are lb bright abright one drawback to the country is the lack of timber how ever it does not appear as it if much would be required tor ifor the mines owing to the solid formation splendid power sites the ore treatment can be easily solved on the bruneau river three miles from ivada are the rapids where at small expense a power plant can be established and power transmitted to the district already a denver company owning claims also parties from other places are talking of putting in plants and will undoubtedly do so as soon as the tonnage of the district is determined how to get there from the outer world you can reach this district as fallows mountain hunie home to rowland by wagon ninety five miles from elko to gold creek by stage then horseback twenty five miles to rowland the whole distance being miles mountain home to jarbidge harbidge Jar bidge via black rock canyon distance miles twin falls to buhl by rail then regular daily stage to jarbidge harbidge Jar bidge then by trail to ivada fourteen miles A few wagons have recently made the trip from harbidge jarbidge Jar bidge in but a road will soon be completed supplies can be purchased at jarbidge harbidge Jar bidge and packed in for T per pounds from elko the stage line will run to rowland gills ranch three miles from ivada as soon as repairs can be made on bridges recently washed out A railroad is now being surveyed which if built will be within about thirty five miles away to the north about men are now at work in the district there is no excitement but a firm belief by every one that gold basin will make good and will be as great a camp as nevada has ever known in all its ite history from a ranch one mile from
