Show THE HYDE LEASE miner national nev the hyde pruett lease was let by the national mines company in the fall of 1909 this lease was the second block south of the north end line of the companas comp anys operations the leasers leaders began work immediately on a tunnel starting just above charleston gulch and following in a general way south toward the known ore deposit as demon in the workings of the stall lease and companas comp anys operations the tunnel and its laterals literals late rals comprised some feet of workings nothing of any moment was encountered and work thereon was finally abandoned and a new tunnel started to the east of this block of ground this tunnel was carried in a southeasterly direction some feet and a lateral put off to the east some forty feet the management became discouraged and was about ready to abandon the lease in fact said they would quit in two weeks if nothing was discovered the tunnel at about feet from its entrance had passed through a small seam showing talc quartz and some of the base metals common to Char elston hill the management commenced a drift on this small seam to the south and at three feet cut the tip of an ore shoot carrying as high grade ore as any ever found in the stall lease immediately a drift was started to the north and at awen ty three feet cut the tip of another ore shoot this seam widened out into a respectable vein within a few feet which trends N 14 deg E and southwest the same the drifting was continued both ways on this vein to the end lines of the lease block and in doing so cut the tips of three high grade shoots the ore is of the same general character as that found on the west virginia claims comprising the Io bonanza nanza workings of the old stall lease the high grade runs from 20 to per pound and in weight carries 51 per cent gold to 49 per cent silver making it an electrum ore i e a deposit of native gold and silver of proportions stated the silver is slightly in excess of what it should be owing to the fact that there has been a secondary enrichment of this ore by the deposition in the vein and on the outer edges of the ahe nuggets of high grade ore or ruty ruoy sliver silver the center of the high grade nodules continue to give the proportion of gold and silver of the primary deposit because the solutions containing the ruby silver failed to penetrate the interior of this ore the reason for the statement that these bunches of high grade ore are but the tips or apexes of the high grade shoots will be explained in detail in the description of the national mines companas comp anys property workings and showings in the issue of december ath the leasers leaders in running the drifts along the vein encountered considerable good grade ruby silver ore also a large flow of water was developed the water made it impossible to sink on the vein with wall any means of control at hand profiting by the experience of the national mines company the management decided to get into the hanging wall some forty feet and raise to the surface on an incline which they believed from the holding companas comp anys deeper works would represent the dip of the vein at depth this rock incline will hold an even pitch and keep in the hanging wall all the way down at about an equa distance from the vein and crosscuts cross cuts can then be run east to the vein at feet the continuation of this incline below the tunnel level is now being rushed with an attained depth of fifty feet the raise to the surface is finished little water in the country rock is in evidence the leasers leaders purchased a fairbanks morse gasoline hoist by the time it is installed the foot point below the tunnel level will in all probability have been reached and be ready to tap the vein as soon as the installation is completed and thus be able to control the flow of water forecasted by the water in the vein above and prevent the water overcoming operations and raising to tunnel level |
