Show OGDEN RAPID TRANSIT CO by J W bailey gen supt bupt the ogden rapid transit company has in connection with its city lines a line up ogden canyon a distance of seven miles from our union depot the last three miles of this line in the canyon cost the roadbed being blasted out of solid rock in a great many places it also crosses ogden river three times in this distance this is one of the most beautiful rides to be had in this western country and is generally enjoyed by tourists from the east the brigham city line was completed between hot springs and brigham city on the of october at which time the regular service was started on this line the cars run every one and a half hours from 6 30 in the morning until 11 1100 00 at night making twenty four trains over the road each day we are now completing a cutoff cut off four and one half miles long which will connect at harrisville with the plain city line and at hot springs with the brigham city line when this is finished we expect to make the run from ogden to brigham city in one hour the equipment for this line consists of four 25 ton passenger cars seating forty eight people with smoking department in each car they are equipped with four general electric no inter pole motors operating 40 H P on volts and 50 H P on volts we expect to maintain the latter voltage when the line is complete these motors are rated for forty five miles an hour on the volts this line goes past the utah hot springs through willard city perry and brigham and is twenty two miles in length the willard power plant consists of the following one pipe line feet long with a head of 2250 feet one A C generator K X W 2300 volts 60 cycles R P M one D C generator K IV volt R P M three transformers L W it R willard electric substation sub station photo by will C higgins 2300 volt 60 cycle all of the electrical machinery was made by the allis chalmers company the pelton wheel was furnished by the pelton water wheel company of san francisco the A C and D C generators are directly connected with the pelton wheel shaft the D C generator furnishes power to the brigham city interurban te line and the A G C generator furnishes all surplus power tb ogden over a volt transmission line eighteen miles long the D C generator was not designed to stand a runaway speed which may occur but has a speed limiting switch which closes at a predetermined speed when this switch closes it throws a load on the A C generator through a water rheostat J W BAILEY |
