possible sidney coburn the superintendent of the pavlak company who has been largely responsible for the success of this company is justly pleased at the present condition of the affairs of the corporation including its mine its mill and its financial standing mr coburn while developing a mine for his company has done much for the prospector and the camp in general he has employed local help has patronized the local stores where possible and he has from the start stare paid all bills and wages in cash mr coburn is now able to give work to many prospectors who want work and there are many of them who have been prospecting all summer and did not know where their grub was to come from for the winter it gives mr coburn as much pleasure to give these idle men employment as it does them to find a job right here and thus enable them to secure a grubstake grub stake for the winter and be able to remain here and be on hand to look after their claims mr coburn has a large gang of men at work on the on the lumber and in repairing the road and yet he can hardly find places for all the men who want to get in a few weeks work the mill has been planned to handle custom ore from other mines but the company is opening up so much ore on its own ground that the probabilities are that it will not be able for long to handle any ore outside that from its own mines and possibly that from the several leases on the pavlak vein the 4 M lease is drifting both to the north and south on the vein on the fifty foot level in the and is accumulating a lot of high grade milling ore for the new mill the riddle corrigan lease has the vein opened by tunnels on two levels and have considerable quantities of ore in sight which runs from 12 to 16 per ton the curley lease has the tunnel in about 80 feet on the vein and has ore that pans well the ham and lease which is on the taft ledge a parallel vein to the pavlak and about four hundred feet to the west of it and also on the pavlak ground has a tunnel in eighty feet ore all the way that pans from 14 to 65 per ton this lease is being run by albert mccoy cash andrews and C E murry they are now starting a crosscut tunnel from the river level to cut their ore body sixty five feet below the present tunnel which will enable them to deliver their ore right on the wagon road for convenience in hauling to the mill they expect to cut the vein by the time me mill is finished and be ready to supply ore to the mill from the first turn of the wheels the amazon rainbow company of which theodore parks is superintendent is in ninety feet with its tunnel which is following the amazon ledge and has been showing a little better values all the time this tunnel will intersect the main pavlak vein when in about fifty feet more this company will also be in condition to supply ore to the new mill this company has one of the best equipped tunnels in camp it is well timbered has good car and track and has a blacksmith shop covered entirely with galvanized iron the good luck mine also in charge of mr parks has its tunnel in about feet and is showing some high grade the tunnel follows the foot wall of the vein running in vein matter that is full of sulphides sulp hides hideo which carries small values the tunnel is now nearly under the big surface outcrop and mr parks expects soon to cro crosscut the entire width of the vein the clark pletcher fletcher lease on the north star vein has run a crosscut from its lower tunnel under the which was sunk from the upper tunnel on a chute of rich ore and is now up raising on the vein when this connection is made it will give the mine good ventilation and will also open up considerable sloping ground james duncan has bonded the guess guess fraction and buster brown claims for to featherstone and associates who are laying in supplies and materials for steady work atis winter theodore parks has bought the interest of pete garner in the last chance no 1 and last chance no 2 claims which are south of the bourne mine and just east of the great quartzite dike he expects to soon start development work on this property which has several promising ledgel showing on it mccormack and partners have bonded the sugar group of four claims in the fourth crater for to jack griffith who represents butte capitalists lige fletcher and others of boise have started a crosscut cross cut tunnel on their miss mo group of claims northeast of the bourne mine and are putting in supplies for winter work this property is just east of the quartzite dike and considerable of the surface dirt pans well in free gold they expect to strike the vein within a short distance mccormack has sent a large amount of supplies to the free fissure gold company in the third crater preparatory for steady work this winter this company has opened three veins on the east slope of jumbo peak and is finding large quantities of food ore with some picture rock work in the jack creek crater three miles southeast of jarbidge harbidge Jar bidge on the property of the coeur dalene jarbidge harbidge Jar bidge mining company is progressing well and with good results the property is favorably located for cheap and quick development present work is upon two ore shoots with favorable tun nel sites and free gold ore is being handled by every shift the company has made splendid preparation for the winter work two large and comfortable cabins have been built seventy five pack loads of provisions have been stored and every preparation made for winters work six or eight men will be employed during the winter months and the indications are that ample ore will be blocked out by spring to justify a milling plant as soon as the season is favorable the elko alko county commissioners have investigated vesti gated the necessities of the camp and have undertaken to build a new road into jarbidge harbidge Jar bidge from the south connecting with the deeth road at charleston which will give the people of this district an outlet to the western pacific railroad at A deeth also to the merchants of deeth and elko and to the ranchers of elko county this will give the camp much cheaper freight rates and will greatly reduce the price of necessities here A company has been organized with a capital of to build this road and the stock was all subscribed at once the county has guaranteed to take up this stock in one year at an advance of 8 per cent A large force of men twenty teams scrapers and two large road machines are now at work pushing this road through so as to have it ready for winter travel elko county has been a long time waking up to the fact that it had a big new mining camp within its borders but the business men are now after the trade the fact that jarbidge harbidge Jar bidge was the second largest voting precinct in the county was a big surprise to the people of the county and they had to come to us the elko county road from there to deeth has caused the twin falls merc nants to sit up and take notice they see their monopoly of the trade of a great mining camp slipping away from them and it has caused them to get busy bury they have had a new road surveyed out of the camp which will give an easy grade and avoid the bad points on the old road besides making the distance several miles shorter they are also endeavoring endeavoring to finish this road as soon as possible in order to have it in shape so that the heavier parts of the machinery for the pavlak mill can come over it without trouble now that the district is assured a good road from town both to the north and the south the next great need of the camp is id telephone connection with the outside elko and twin fals both wish to be connected by wire with this place the elko telephone company has the money in its treasury to build such a 9 line and has asked for bids to extend the line from gold creek to jarbidge harbidge Jar bidge so it is possible that we may soon be connected with the outside world WINTHROP A FISK |
