the pretty mining camp of marysvale Marys vale which is the southern terminus of the stub line k marysvale Marys vale is located in plute county it is built at a point at the mouth of bullion canyon where it commands the entrance to the mines of marys vale mountain and the trade of the beautiful valley where much farming and ranching is carried on and no good reason exists why it should not be one of the most flourishing and productive mining camps in the state for up bullion canyon and also lining the rugged sides of cottonwood c canyon anyon a few further 4 to the south the country is heavily mineralized and here in the early history of the district mines were found and worked which made bag money for their owners and the early day activity gave promise of wonderful things for the future and yet marysvale Marys vale for the past ten years has practically been on the inactive list the mountains are there yet the great surface showings still exist and a more attractive and inviting mining region cannot be found in the west and yet with one or two exceptions most of the leading mines and prospects of the district are idle and neglected if the camp has a dodoo it has tiac not been traced to its lair and the most that can be said to the detriment of the district is that but little depth so far has been attained in mine development and operation it may be that this accounts for the lack of interest being taken in this most inviting districts district by the outside pub lie lic by the investor and capitalist and yet successes have been chronicled in the operation of more than one property in the district during the early history of that section at that time many prominent salt lakers were interested in the vale hon 0 J salisbury now with the great majority made history and money with the deer trail hon R 0 chambers and L U colbath for many years identified with the mining industry of the state and whose memories are still cherished among a wide circle of friends and acquaintances opened up a prolific producer in the webster in bullion canyon a property accredited with a product production on of with a depth of only feet the dalton the discovery of which is still fresh is 7 ar ar 4 e vu kl 44 AN dump of the old clyde mine cottonwood canyon photo by will 11 C higgins in the minds of even the semi tenderfoot which created a stir in mining circles which was not eclipsed even by the discovery of goldfield is still holding solitary vigil near the entrance to horse heaven and its Is reputed to have produced somewhere in the neighborhood of and this within feet from the grass roots when the rich pay shoot was lost and yet it is claimed by marys vale inhabitants that in the 2000 feet of blind tunnels in this mine two million tons of 7 ore are blocked out ready for extraction and the mill and 7 milling gold ore in such quantity would cause a nutter flutter of excitement in any other mining camp outside of utah the clyde mine in cottonwood canyon is another property with a record of production and of rich ore at that has given it a name as well as fame throughout this intermountain region and the clyde is still a winner for in its mine workings large bodies of excellent shipping ore are exposed ready for extraction as soon as the powers that be give the sign for a renewal of operations mining in the district the deer trail in the foothills between bullion and cottonwood canyons is the most niest active of any of Marys vales mines and prospects the deer trail is giving employment to a force of twenty men at the time under the direction of superintendent in 0 S holderman who receives his orders from 0 J salisbury of salt lake manager for the company the deer trail is a freak but of the genus and order that any mining man would like to have it produced its thousands in the past from a great blanket vein of gold bearing ore and if reports circulating around marys vale are true and correct the deer trail gives promise of great things in the near tp 7 j ow y ar A 7 V waw t aa A S the old dalton mine bullion canyon ph h hv if wl C higging future as it is stated that the ore bodies now being blocked out are enormous in size as well as extremely rich in their gold values the writer had an interview with mr salisbury during his recent visit to marysvale Marys vale and he stated that he was cleaning up the old workings of the mine and doing some exploratory work in the driving of drifts and tunnels the new work so far consists of feet of drifting this thia has crosscut cross cut the blanket vein on its dip for a distance of forty feet and the thickness of the deposit has not yet been determined ter mined the ore mr salisbury says Is a milling proposition and experimental tests made in salt lake with the cyanide process aided by Kelly niters filters show a recovery of go 90 per cent of the assay value of the ore in due time the public will learn what tho the company proposes to do with the deer trail but that it will not be idle in the future is a foregone conclusion the gold development company whose vast domain covers the divide between bullion and cottonwood canyons and which lap their forest covered sides is next on the list as second only in mining activity in the district the gold development is really one of the big mining propositions of utah and its possessions cover some of the best ground in the district it is a philadelphia company of which dr homer 0 bloom is president ole larsen of ephraim utah is mine manager and M F murray of the same place is secretary and utah representative at the present time the gold development is pushing work in the development of its log cobin group this work consists of a long tunnel headed for edna crater or peak through which passed the great fissure which dominates that portion of the district this tunnel is called the franklin tunnel and was thus thur christened after the late dr P A H franklin who in reality was the father of the gold development enterprise the franklin tunnel at the time of the visit of the writer to the mine was in a distance of 2100 feet and it was believed that a distance of 35 15 feet more would take the tunnel workings into the great edna vein the company is well equipped for extensive operation in the development of its different properties but at the present time is working a force of only eight men the glen eyrie mine just above the webster in bullion canyon owned by that veteran miner milan packard of spring ville utah is being worked by a small force and now has a shipment of high grade gold ore ready for shipment this is a most promising property and is 18 looked upon as the making of one of th the big rallies min of the district in the development of ht his gold bullion mine in the same district mr air packard has a tunnel in a distance of more than 1000 feet mr packard visited the glen eyrie a short time ago and was much pleased with its physical condition the webster is idle at the present time but it is believed that work in its opera tion will be resumed some time this sum mer C L rood of salt lake recently vis cited the webster and it is reported was a highly pleased with the showing in its un 1111 der ground workings twenty years ago the webster was a heavy producer of silver lead ore carrying about half an ounce in a gold the low grade ores of the mine were formerly milled near the mouth of bullion canyon the group owned by henry of richfield utah is a near neighbor of the L N group owned by the gold development company work will soon be resumed in the development of this valuable property which in time should take rank as one of the heavy producers of the district the mt baldy mine thirteen miles south of marysvale Marys vale owned by reuben dewitt and his two sons vaughn and john is showing up well with development this s a gold producer and in some of the ore native gold is readily visible three inches of the vein carries sensational values and a small shipment may be made at an early date sid black one of the enterprising citizens zens s of marysvale Marys vale has important interests in several marysvale Marys vale mines included in the number being the B M four miles north of that place in ill this property large bodies of low grade milling ore have been uncovered he is also interested in two claims located between the webster and the cascade as well as in two claims in bullion canyon upon which the annual assessment ses work is being kept up john sandberg of marysvale Marys vale a leading citizen and who conducts a general merchandise store is interested in the derjue and surprise mine located west of the holdings of the gold development company A large amount of work has been done in the development of this property and considerable sid erable good ore is in sight but the company needs capital for more extended development mr sandberg is also interested in the midnight group about five miles northeast of marysvale Marys vale this is a gold and ana silver proposition of considerable promise and merit the property is being developed by tunnel which is in a distance of feet it is expected it will cut the vein showing in the bottom of a forty foot shaft desirable connection should soon be b 0 mada in ad has b the beecher hill mining company 0 old been incorporated to take over the BU beecher group near the divide on the lion canyon side of the range this valuable property and has long been looked upon as the making of a big producer with more extended development the company is capitalized at shares of a par value of ten cents each the officers are herman bamberger president john H mcchrystal vice president and M F murray secretary and treasurer the other directors are ole larsen and W M forney the beecher hill was formerly known as the old frank wright mine and is a silver lead producer of considerable note it is being developed by a tunnel which is being driven to cut the contact the tunnel is now in feet and should make the desired connection within twenty five or fifty feet more ille bradburn property at the head of cottonwood canyon is one of the most promising propositions in the district it has been in course of superficial development for a number of years the surface show showings anzis are excellent and the ore which is gold bearing is pregnant with promise of what may be expected with depth the company is idle at at the present time but it is expected that operations will be resumed in the very near future G F dalton and W J wolstenholme holde are nursing a good looking proposition in bullion canyon and mr dalton who is on the ground expects to begin active operation within the next few days |
