Show ORE DRESSING VOLUMES 3 AND 4 with the publication of volumes 3 and 4 of ore dressing by prof robert H richards of the massachusetts institute of technology this work which has ever since the appearance of the first two volumes 0 of anything stood far and away ahead la all else of its kind in the english guage has been brought to completion the work was projected first as a revisit the ila D of the original two volumes but of ture of these was such and the mass that instead instead additional matter was so great H of a revision it took the shape in which it is now given to the public the general trend is a bringing up to date of the work as first published by detailed descriptions of new machines and devices and descriptions of mills which chic la have in the past few years marked the enormous strides forward of the science of ore dressing volume 3 follows out the general scheme of volume 1 the first chapter being devoted to rock breakers with succeeding chapters on rolls stamps of all kinds veri other than stamps classify classifiers ers and sizing apparatus jigs tables sl imers amalgamation ga mation miscellaneous processes of separation such as magnetic pneumatic and dry process separators and accessory apparatus such as bins samples feeders conveyors pumps etc volume 4 contains the descriptions of ninety four mills of general and special interest from the typical concentrator for saving copper or lead to mills designed for the saving of mercury tungsten or diamonds a chapter on power water consumption costs mill tests and such other general information tables and other useful information and ia a bibliography A complete index of all four volumes is furnished to all purchasers of volumes three and four each important subject is treated in two different ways first by detailed descriptions of the machines employed and second by careful considerations of the theory involved where authentic data have been obtainable these have been tabulated so as to present a convenient method of comparing results from the standpoint of one who wishes to keep track of the new points volume three is of interest in its descriptions of the nissen stamp traylor double discharge mortar car data on tube mills Garil garneld eld chilian mill lane slow speed mill and herman sherman S Sli erman centrifugal roller mill under classifying and sizing of especial interest we find the dorr classifiers callow traveling belt screen richards pocket vortex classifier classi fyer richards classi class fyer callow cone and sherman system of classification under concentrating machinery are descriptions script ions of the hancock jig woodbury jig richards jig much additional matter on the wilfley table the table card concentrator the woodbury table and johnston vanner the items mentioned cover only a very small range of the multitude of subjects treated but serve to illustrate the general trend of the newer matter which would be of most interest to one working on the ores of this section of the country volume four contains descriptions of several mills of local interest such as the utah copper boston con steptoe daly west daly judge cactus pittsburg silver peak giroux con etc the chapter on costs etc is of especial interest taking up the question of computing cost of production in all of its phases with illustrations from well known companies the expenditure pend iture of horsepower in the various stages of ore dressing water consumption and recovery these interesting and valuable works are included in the book and map department of the mining review and may be ordered from the mining review |
