Show OIL NOTES A letter from pat holohan superintendent of the virgin river oil development company operating at virgin city utah states that at a depth of seventeen feet in the oil sand the rope broke and the tools have become fastened in the hole these tools weigh about two tons and fishing them out is rather a difficult task mr holohan expects to be drilling again within a few days A Q van petter of stirling illinois recently recently visited the oil fields in southern utah and was very much pleased with the conditions there he also crossed the arizona and visited the camp of H H dark clark in part he said 1 I believe the virgin field is going to be one of the best in the world in the canyons and gulches I 1 saw any number of places where a few strokes with a pick will bring a tiny stream of oil trickling through the shale I 1 was told that of twenty wells which have been put down in the field there was only one dry hole mr dark clark was down nine hundred feet when I 1 visited his camp he had lost his drill in the bottom of the hole and was drilling down alongside of it to recover it he should have recovered it by this time and the news that he has struck oil should come along most any day he was in the oil sand when I 1 was there he has 13 acres down there and has staked out the point for his next well standard oil men who are now in the field say that mr dark clark is working along the right lines and predict his success the paraffin virgin oil company has placed a block of shares of treasury stock with which to prosecute more active work on its estate near virgin city utah A new well is to be put down a new pump installed at the downey well and a system I 1 of storage tanks placed on the ground |
