Show IDAHO phosphates BEING MINED news boise idaho joseph J taylor manager of the phosphates mines of the san francisco chemical company near montpelier i is s in the city to spend a few days looking after business matters in conversation with a representative of the capital news he stated that the company is shipping out about ten carloads of phosphates each week to san francisco francasco where it is manufactured fact ared into super phosphate fertilizer and sh shipped dipped to australia and to the southern part of california this is 19 one of the big industries and most important enterprises in the state on account of the large deposits of phosphate which exist near ilear montpelier and which are scarce throughout the west of conditions atthe at the mines which have been in operation for several years and which were developed entirely by mr taylor he said we are quietly going ahead and sawing wood shipping out about 35 carloads a month or on an average of 10 carloads each week to the chemical works in san francisco where the phosphates are manufactured into fertilizer ti if it was not for the railroads which have prohibitive rates on sulphuric acid we could manufacture the right at the plant the rate has been cut some about 80 cents lately but it is still pretty high we are only working a small force but have been getting out 35 cars a month to the chemical factory in san francisco A great deal of the fertilizer manufactured from the phosphates is shipped to australia while some is shipped to southern california the high freight rates have kept the prices down much lower than they would be if the mines were located closer to the coast the phosphates industry is considered one of the most important enterprises in the state on account of the scarcity of the deposits to be found in western states the deposits in the vicinity of montpelier are immense and apparently inexhaustible the fertilizer manufactured from the phosphates is excellent which is evident from the fact that a large amount of it is shipped annually to australia |
