Show TINTIC NEWS NOTES 1 eureka utah reporter the junior mining students of the uni hersity jy of utah will come to eureka a week sunday for a six weeks surveying from om trip part P of this time win will be used in a study of the an geological formations of the district strict the mining students spent six weeks here last season their camp being near the yankee mine H gustalli Gus and joseph oconner were over at the diamond queen property in diamond recently and let a contract to william and william oakey to run a tunnel of feet on the property the contract price is 6 per foot it is their intention to strike the vein already opened up in the shaft and which is an extension of the vein of the elgin property from which frank is cutting out very good ore at present the diamond queen group lies to the south of the elgin superintendent joseph hannifin states that the shaft at the little chief mine is now down to a depth of 1170 feet when the 1200 level is reached a station will be cut and then sinking will be continued the shaft at the little chief was dropped down a distance of feet in twenty three days this is a splendid record for shaft work but superintendent hannifin is of the opinion that the shaft can be put down another hundred feet in about the same length of time the usual amount of prospecting is also going on at the little chief about twenty five men are now at work at the swansea and south swansea mines they are engaged in repairing the shaft overhauling the machinery and otherwise putting the properties into condition for operation in case the consolidation deal is ratified and there is every reason to believe that it will be all the development work tor for both mines will be handled through the south swansea shaft because this mine has the best equipment the swansea mine has been opened to a depth of 1050 feet while the south swansea workings extend only to the level but the latter shaft will be sunk deeper fo for the purpose of opening up the entire property as it ought to be it has been estimated that the flow of water from the two mines will be from to io gallons per minute but it will be an easy matter to handle the water with the new ew electric pumps which are now upon the e ground and ready to be installed the new hoist hoisting ing equipment at the ray mond illinois mine is now in working order A few weeks ago the engine at the ray mond illinois went to pieces and the cage along with 2000 feet of cable dropped to the bottom of the shaft the engine was almost a total wreck and instead of trying to repair it manager J C sullivan immediately I 1 got busy and installed more powerful hoisting equipment including an engine which will answer the needs need of the company long after the raymond has taken its place among the big mines of the district A cage was secured from the grand central company for temporary use and 2000 feet of new cable arrived at the mine a few days ago the old cable and cage ca ge will be pulled up out of the sump and immediately thereafter the water which has accumulated in the underground workings during the enforced shutdown shut down of the mine will be hoisted mr sullivan expects to be able to resume development work upon the 1500 level this week |
